  1. We're having some close friends over today, so I'm making chili
with beans, baked corn, and hot crab dip w/chips as an appetizer.
They're bringing beer and dessert. The kids are planning to build
a fort and we adults are going to play cards. Looking forward to a
    fun evening... :-)

Gimme double-deck (four of every card) pinochle or give me no pinochle! 🙂

Ditto double-deck hearts -- my favorite vicious social game.

    A quadruple-run?? Sure!

My ex and her sister and a another friend taught me double deck and I got
very good at it. At first all I could say is "all these cards?? My hand
    hurts!!"

Sounds like fun. We're going to work on remodeling and take the dogs for a
    walk. For dinner, it's

    whole pinto beans with garlic
    fresh roasted pasilla chile, the closest we can get to Hatch right now : {
    gaba brown rice
    red chile sauce
topped with soy cheese and diced jalepeno.

    We're pretending it's winter.

Be grateful what you only play with the high end of the decks. 🙂

My minors at Michigan State were pinochle, hearts, euchre and Risk.

  7. Tonight is "use up left-overs" night. I roasted a chicken in my Romertopf
(clay pot) earlier this week; then, boiled the carcass down. After
removing the spent bones, I was left with lots of chicken scrap meat and a
nice, gelatinous broth. For tonight's dinner, I have made a casserole,
similar to chicken tetrazzini, with the chicken meat, mushrooms, pasta,
some of the gelatinous broth and topped with a bit of cheese at the end of
baking. I'll serve it with green beans seasoned with butter and lemon
pepper, salad and ciabatta with roasted garlic.

Did your team win? Mine won by a hair - again. They have lots of
stupid moves and plenty of dumb luck (so far).

If you're having chili with beans I can't see having corn as a second
starch... and then with the chips it's way too much starch. Instead
of corn I'd serve fresh salsa... and I can't see anything crab with
chili... do guacamole for a dip, those counting calories can dip
salsa. You can add some corn niblets to the salsa but I think serving
whole ears is a bit much.

With this kind of fare you can serve beer too but I'd prefer sangria.
