I once stopped at a lovely, heavily laden grapefruit tree in someone's
yard in Arizona. I went to the front door, knocked, and asked if I could
purchase a few fresh grapefruit from them. I'd pick them.He said I could have a few for free and thank you for being polite
enough to ask.....It galls me what nerve people have sometimes, just tresspassing and
taking what they want like they are entitled to it!I get raids on my fig tree on any branches hanging over the fence.
<grumble>Perfect manners, asking to purchase those grapefruit, and ideal
response from him. Well done all-round.Here's another thought about o'er hanging branches. My neighbors to
the north (backyard) planted a nectarine tree too close to the fence
line. About 1/3 of the branches hang over the fence. I have to clean
up the rotted fruit that drops into my yard and the leaves that drop
in autumn. I feel just fine about availing myself of the fruit that's
on my side of the fence.
Yeah I know, which is why I've never done anything about it.
The fruit hanging over the fence tho' is out in the street. City
whatchamacalit that is still essentially MY property, but I know I can't
really do anything about that.

being, I'd give it to them. But I'm not and I don't :-)
Nah. If they really wanted it, they'd ask to come and pick in your yard!
I have Muscadine grapes on the fenceline. I've told my neighbors they
can have any grapes on that side so don't hesitate to pick them, and I'd
even give them recipes! I generally just let the birds have them.
Muscadine is not an "edible" grape but makes good jelly or wine.
