Dee DeeThat's a good thing so as not to overstress the health care system in
the greater Chicago area. Those aren't my pictures btw - I found them
while searching for information about actual food. The one time I ate
at Diner Grill I wasn't brave/stupid enough to try The Slinger. I tried
the eggs and hash browns which seemed safe in theory. -

OH YEA!!!!! makes me hungry just looking at it!!!!as most,i would love to open up a diner, put it in an old airstream or
railroad car. i use to have all the old 50's diners menus somewhere and
a list of the menu callout, you know, "one steer knock the horns off and
drag it through garden" but alas i cannot find the site anymore but is
was really cool!Grizzman

Why is it considered an accomplishment to eat it?
Unless the chili is some sort of uber-hot joke chili...though if the
best they can do is a few pickled jalapenos on top, I'll need to dig
out that bottle of Frank's Red Hot that's cowering behind the ketchup
and mustard in that one pic.Slingerrhea? The only way that thing should give you any gastric
distress is if: 1) you were raised on wonder-bread and baloney and
still eat nothing but; or, b) the place is unsanitary, in which case
you'll get sick just eating their burgers.--Blair

I'd totally try to eat it
but I'm sure that amount of grease and fat would do a number on my intestines
one way or another.--

I once ate at a Waffle House. My breakfast consisted of two eggs,
cooked in some kind of ring so the eggs were perfectly circular,
perfectly FLAT bacon, cooked under some kind of iron-like weight so
the bacon had no wrinkles, and hash browns, served in a perfectly
rectangular patty. I thought it extremely odd to force food into this
bizarre kind of symetrical presentation. The coffee was ok as I recall.
This was in 1977. I've never gone back.

I'm not sure if they still do that nearly 30 years later. I have never had
my eggs or hash browns served as you described. Using a bacon press is not
uncommon and I don't mind flat bacon. :-)--

Mgt would approve of my review. Here in St. Louis, OT Hodge Chile Parlors (and their former franchisee Chili
Mac's Diner) are notable for their Slingers, which are similar to what is
described for the Diner Grill. The main difference being OT's uses american
fries, eggs prepared as you like and offers two sizes, Slinger and Slinger
Jr.; the Jr. has only a single cheeseburger patty. My favorite is "Jr.,
scrambled, with (beans), grated (cheese)" with chopped onion and red pepper
flakes on the side. If I'm extraordinarily hungry (or being a fool to show
someone "how it's done"😉 I'll order my Slinger topped (tamale), etc.It may look totally disgusting, but it is an inspired taste treat. Washed
down with an ice cold root beer (no beer at OT's), mmmmm, mmmmmm, good eats. For the weak, there's plenty of other fine food on the menu, such as
chili-mac, tamales (wet if topped with chili).--

inside the ring then once the whites firm up you can pull the ring away. The hash browns might have come in prewrapped form.
I have a great idea for a concept restuarant -- you get a free geometry
lesson with breakfast ... circles, rectangles, planes, dodecahedrons ...
you could use a compass and ruler for utensils ... the possibilities are
limitless. -

they make me stupidly happy, but I'm easily amused! The last time I ate at a Waffle house was about 2 1/2 years ago, 4am in
Paducah, KY. We'd been driving since 4pm the afternoon before (with a rather
trippy stop at a Schnucks, which I am convinced is a stoners paradise). The food there was so awful bad that by the time we hit Nashville I was pretty
sure I wanted to die. I'm sure it was made worse by the fact that I'd not
slept in 24 hours and had been driving forever. We didn't stop to sleep until
we hit Atlanta that evening and I was pretty sure I was dead!--

Forget the cheese and use Hollandaise sauce for eggs Benedict....... ;-dPre-toast the English muffin.
Mom used to make these for New Years day every year while we watched the
Rose Parade. <sigh>
