I have rear suspension, a padded seat and 27 gears. This may make a difference.

    You reckon ??

  2. everyone is different, but I went from a fairly upright MB to a Felt Road bike about a month ago..and I can't emphasize the importance of a correct fitting bike as everyone has pointed out, and try a few untill you find one that feels like it fits I say "feels like" because the new riding position will feel really odd initialy...

It took me about 10 miles to get used to the new riding position, staring down at that skinny liddle wheel...

But over the course of a few miles you can make adjustments to get the saddle position right both up and down and fore and aft to get a good pedal circle....then you can rotate the Bars etc later...

I found that on long rides, although the upright suspension bike was comfy for a few miles they become very uncomfortable after 10-15 miles, the reason is, you're sitting upright, all the weight of your upper torso is on your sit bones (Bum), this also compresses your spine...also, with flat handle bars there's not many positions you can ride in...

On the other Paw, I find a road bike is much more comfy for long rides, the seat is used more as a Perch to lean back against...there's more of your body weight on your arms, and the different geometry when peddling takes a lot of your body weight off your Bum...

Also, you can vary your riding position during long rides, on the flats, the brake huds, the drops...this helps a lot when you don't have to ride whilst stuck on one position...

I'd prefer a road bike any time...I never ache the day after a long ride like I did when I was riding my mountain bike...

I keep the mountain bike for riding rough trails with friends...

On anything other than smooth surfaces, well, relatively smooth..the road bike is not good at all...

So it depends where you ride really....😎
