Cubit said:I came down with a sore throat Sunday, about noon, so I am suspending my
diet. I think this is my first illness in the last 21 months, as far as I
can recall. I'm not sure exactly how many calories will be break even. I'm
going to try for about 2000 per day for a week. (I'm usually getting 1200
to 1400.) If I gain a pound, it is no big deal. I know how to take it back
off.
My temp is only 99.1, but then my temperature is usually a bit subnormal. I
assume I run subnormal because of the long term calorie restriction.

No need to suspend the diet.
My sister and her two kids have moved in with me until she can get a
place of her own. She has a 13 year old son. The day after they moved
in he started with a sore throat. I started him on 2000 mg of vitamin
C, four times a day. She was a little concerned about the amounts I was
giving him and she was telling me how he often gets these sore throats
that he can't shake. Sometimes they last up to a couple of months, even
with multiple anti-biotic prescriptions under the care of their doctor.
Afer day four of the vitamin C regimen, his sore throat was gone. No
signs of a cold or flu. I think she finally understands what I mean
when I talk about taking vitamins and eating real fresh whole food.
A great tasting and extremely healthy low-carb meal is a simple home
made chicken soup.
This is Acadian Fricot, a simple Acadian chicken soup.
One whole chicken cut up
two onions quartered
2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon savory
6 to 8 cups water
bring to boil, skim it, then simmer for about 45 minutes
Strain broth, debone and break up chicken to bite size pieces
add chicken to broth, add 2 small potatoes cubed, 2 carrots cut to bite
size, add another teaspoon savory, adjust seasoning to taste, simmer
til veggies done.
So good and so healthy and reasonable low-carb.
