  1. I posted this on the Cycling Equipment forum... no replies... maybe there's a more helpful bunch here... ?

I've been looking for a saddle to replace the one that came with my 03 Speialized Allez Comp 18.

I'm not in the position to try any out so I need to be sure that I get it right first time.

I'm 120+kg so I'm leaning towards a Selle Italia Prolink Gel Flow.

    Any advice/recommendations gratefully received.

    Thanks

  2. I am not sure if this will help, but... On my road bike I ride a Selle Italia SLR Ti. And on my mtn bike I ride a WTB Rocket V Stealth Titanium. I am weighing in at 195lbs.(88,5 kg) right now, summer I am down to 185lbs (83,9 kg). I love both of my seats. The Selle took a couple of rides to get the butt bone used to it, but comfortable after that.

    Ron

  3. I have a selle Italia Pro Link Gel on one of my bicycles. I think it is a very comfortable saddle. (I weigh 160 lbs.)

  4. Oh man, what timing, I hope I'm not too late, havent checked in a few days here. I just bought a new saddle last week. The one that came on my Trek has been a pain in the ass for the last 2 years. I bought a Selle Italia SLR, best saddle I've ever tried. Definatly get it.

  5. Thanks to all of you who've replied. I still haven't made up my mind. It seems that what one person finds totally comfortable another will find a pain in the [censored], literally.

    Keep 'em coming.

    Thanks again.

  6. I'm about the same size (185lbs) and I ride a Selle Italia saddle with a gel cutout through the important part (if you get the drift). It was stock on my 2000 Trek 2300 and I don't remember off the top of my head exactly what model it is, but I've ridden it for years without discomfort.

I also have a WTB Rocket V on my Bianchi fixie, which I like a lot, too. That's a commuter bike though, so not as many miles or as much time in the saddle with that one. I'd recommend the Selle Italia though.

    Good luck!

  7. I had a Selle Italia SLR Transam (the one with the cut-out and gel) on my road bike; it was very comfortable once I got used to it -- takes about a week. I found there is one "proper" way to sit on it that makes it ultra comfy, and moving about on it makes it feel a little awkward.

However, the seat rails cracked earlier this week  (a bit surprising as I weigh "only" 84kg, and my road bike doesn't really see much abuse.)

I'm looking at replacing it with either the same or a Flite Transam, which looks like it has the same sort of fit, but built a bit beefier.

  8. My current road saddle is a Selle TransAm. Comfy, but a narrow sweet spot. You have to position yourself just right to get the comfort.

My 70's vintage Falcon San Remo bike has a new Brooks Team Pro saddle on it, and it's quite comfortable, though it's also quite heavy.

Had a Serfas on my MTB, ended up taking it off and putting it on the tandem. Tried the Serfas dd vado road saddle, but wasn't impressed.

Hate to say it, but just about everyone tries out several saddles before finding the right one for themself. What works for me might be agony for you.

  9. Oh, THANK GOODNESS smeone has finally posted on this.

It is a 'tip toe around area' for us girls...but, blimey....I have had a serious job trying alsorts of saddles/settings and how do I say it politley without going bright red...?

Um, it rubs on areas that I don't want to be pressing hard down on for a 5 hour stretch! I can't cycle right now for one reason and the other and miss it SO much except that particular pain. I can handle my legs burning up etc..but this was too much and I could never fix the problem.

Please girls or guys with g/f's who cycle too could post for when I get my new bike or I will just carry on swimming instead!

~An Alice who is going bright red but had to ask for help!~

    PLEASE don't laugh...at least I am honest!!!!
