Deore front mech for a standard chainset

I don't know where you can get the specific mech you ask for, but does it have to be only that one?

I'm wondering if a modern "road" mech or old MTB mech would do. Do you need top or bottom pull?
Would there be an indexing problem? What type & model gear levers are you using?

I have for sale: 1993 Shimano Altus A10 FD-AT10 triple front mech, band-on 28.6, bottom pull,
suitable for non-compact* double or triple chainsets. Good quality, well used, good working order.
Don't know about compatibility with index shifters. £5.50 including postage. Please email, anyone,
if interested (first refusal to Paul).

* would suit 26/36/48 very well.

Any decent bike shop should be able to order one from Madison with no problem.

From the Shimano website it looks like you want an FD-M511, this has a max big chain ring size of
48 T, presumably meaning it's suitable for non-compact drive chain sets (though the current M510
seems to be compact drive). The FD-M10 is the compact drive version

You could order via the 'Ultimate Pursuits' website. This has been set up by Madison as a way to buy
the products they distribute. You order online, but you collect the item from the bike shop (you
select the bike shop when you use the site).

They certainly list it.

Thanks for the reply. No it doesn't have to be that specific mech, I just assumed that if there's a
non-compact drive Deore chainset then there'd be an equivalent front mech. I'd need a 28.6 top pull
(so I don't think your Altus would work).

As for shifters, at the moment none at all, the bike is just a twinkle in my eye at present (and
the frame I want is out of stock until mid-october); I've specced it out in my head and due to
limited funds I've sort of decided on pretty much all Deore componentry so the shifters would be
Deore as well.

has plenty of 28.6 conventional mechs, though many are bottom pull. Perhaps a Mechverter or
something similar would help if you can't find a suitable top-pull mech?

I'm using the 48 tooth deore chainset and the standard deore universal fit front mech with no
problems. It's on a full sus bike too. Ive got another one on a bike with the standard 42 tooth
ring and it's a nightmare on that - might be something to do with the rear swingarm arrangement!
