  1. Hi!

After lurking in here for a couple of months, I think it's time to
    come out.

I'm 24 years old, live in Denmark, and have been low-carbing (Atkins)
since August 7th (my birthday, incidentally). When I started, I was
weighing about 289 pounds, and for now I have set my goalweight at 170
pounds, as this will give a BMI of just below 25 - I know that BMI
doesn't really tell the full story, but I like to have some sort of
number to aim at. My weight this morning was 268, making 21 pounds
    lost so far - yay!

Currently I'm pretty alone in doing low-carb here, but my weight loss
so far seems to have some effect, and a couple of my best friends are
about to start... eventually. Other than that, I have other friends
doing low-fat diets, which still helps in terms of support and
    motivation.

So far this group has been a great source of information and such
about the low-carb lifestyle. So thank you all.

  2. Hello Stefan,

I'm in Poland, so we're not THAT far away. We visited your great country
in 1997 and really liked it. It was amazing to walk into a supermarket
    (looking for <dare I mention it here...brown sugar?> and the 60ish year
old lady spoke good English! Boy were we amazed, please, surprised, and
    felt very welcomed.

Not too many people in Poland are low carbing, but a few are. (very, very
    few)

(We were visiting Legoland...we've got 5 kids).

Welcome. BTW: do you ride a bike? I hear Danmark is a great place to ride
    bicycles.

No, unfortunately I haven't really been biking for several years. I've
tried to start again a few times, but since my muscles have gotten
used to only walking, I can only ride a bike for a short while, before
my legs start to hurt. Of course it will get better after my muscles
adjust, but I just haven't had the patience.

Perhaps I should try again with my new-found motivation.

Yes! It can only help your weight loss efforts, and, besides, it makes you
    feel like a kid again.
