  1. Hi

Just found this group and had a read through it. I've been doing a
bit of running since March when I was challenged to do a 5k run.
After nearly killing myself I realized I quite enjoyed it, and started
going for short runs 3 times a week. I've since done a second 5k, am
doing a third this weekend, and am going to have a go at a 10k at the
    end of the month.

The question is this. I work at a computer comstantly, and sometimes
when I'm running I get a bit of a pain in my right shoulder, nothing
too bad, just irritating. I get the same thing if I'm stuck at the
computer for an excessive time. I think it's using the mouse that's
doing it. Anyway, if I run at weekends when I've been away froom the
    pc I don't get it.

Is there any stretches I could do or anything to eliminate or at least
    minimise this.

Sometimes going out too fast can cause side pains. Occassionally,
this side pain is generalized to the whole shoulder instead of the
familiar "stitch in the side" phenomenom.

Also, if you carry your arms strangely (a lot of tension in a shoulder
causing it to hunch up or crossing over your body more with your right
forearm than the left) can also cause these pains. Trying holding
your arms at different positions to your body for a run. If it's
clearly akward or painful, adjust. Otherwise, try to go a whole run
with your hand swinging wider than your shoulder, just under, straight
forward, slightly higher than the left, slightly lower than the left,
    etc.

Is your mouse on a different surface than your keyboard? Usually,
people sit so that their hands are placed correctly and ergonomically
at the keyboard. This prevents a lot of arm/shoulder fatigue.

However, many desks do not allow you to place the mouse at the same
level. Furthermore, the movement of a mouse requires shoulder and
forearm movement not required by typing with correct form.

Basically, the closer you can get your mouse to the same level as the
keyboard and the less you can use your shoulder to move the mouse
(instead using the hand and rolling the mouse "in place"😉 the better.

If it happens at work and while running, I'd rule it out being just a
running thing. It could be that it builds up during the work week,
and the motion of running just exacerbates it? I'd see a chiropractor
if I were you, because it could be a mis-alignment issue...

  4. Sounds postural and habitual in nature. A first step would be better
organization through the shoulder girdle in holding static postures helps,
but reeducation of faulty neuromuscular patterns, postural ergonomic
analysis, and rebalancing of soft tissue structures may be the most
appropriate and long-term solution. Who can help with this? Physical
therapists are your best bets. Others will say D.C.s but then that's
    subjective.

  5. I used to get that once or twice when I started running last year. I also
    drive a computer all day.
If you've got the same thing it's nothing to worry about. It'll go away.

  6. Also consider one of those v-shaped ergnomic keyboard to reduce neck tension.
You want to attack this problem ASAP. Being disabled to used keyboards
eliminates lots of good job possibilities these days.
