degreasing pullies: how ?

Paint thinner and an old sock(s) works wonders. Clean, then re-oil.

A rag but this takes real skill not to get the rag hung
up in the derailleur. Flat srcewdriver works and a rag to wipe the tip
of srcewdriver after each pass.

With the bike in a stand, soak the whole RD with degreaser. Scrub everthing
with a shaved down toothbrush (to get in small spaces, soak again and blast
with an air hose. Wipe it down and lubricate appropriately. If you're
worried about blasting the grease out of the main pivots then eliminate the
air blast. If your chain has a removeable master link (ex. SRAM chains)
then it's pretty easy to pull the derailleur off for some really intense
cleaning and lubing.

Often the pullies are caked in a mixture of mud lube and grime with only the
tips of the teeth showing. A tiny screwdriver or pick works nicely to peel
the gunk off.

Using sealed bearing alloy pullies? If they're the type with holes then a
q-tip is needed for that really intense clean.

Use care selecting degreasers. Biodegradables are usually fine but some
(like simple green) may attack aluminum alloys.

Simple Green is just fine on aluminum.

Dont use acetone- i did and my shimano pulleys decided to become
re-formable. Had to get two new ones 🙁

Forget all that degreaser stuff. The aureola is nature's best derr
pully scraper. I just cram my nipple in there and start spinning the
cranks backwards.
Fantastic for cleaning the cogs too!
