If it was me, I would go for the more expensive of the two
Karrimor rucksacks. ie the green one.

My reasons:

- I currently have a 65 litre Karrimor Jaguar rucksack and I
like it. It's strong and well-built. It is not waterproof
but I am in the habit of wrapping all my gear in plastic
bags anyway.

- Although the green rucksack is more expensive, in the
sale, than the blue one it is a bigger saving - so you're
getting more for your money.

- I've not seen any pro-action rucksacks. This ng has raved
about the pro-action tent but I've not heard much about
the rucksacks. A full-price of 30 quid for a 90 litre sack
worries me! (But 14.99 for a spare tent seems good!)

- I can carry all my walking and camping gear in a 65 litre
pack without *too much* pain. A 90 litre pack would
encourage me to take too much with me. My aim is to have
at least one back-packing camping trip using my (bought-from-Argos-
today) Craghoppers 45 litre rucksack. Unless you like
lifting heavy weights then don't get the 95 litre pack.

Perhaps Argos would let you have a look before you
bought? If not, you can take it back within 16 days for
your money back.

If your after a Karrimor rucksack and live somewhere in the
north west (near the M65 and Accrington) the closing down
sale is still on at the Karrimor factory. They have hundreds
of backpacking sacs for sale at less than half price.

Argos did let me look at them before i bought. i ended up
getting the cheaper (blue) karrimor at £25 because they
didnt have the dearer one in stock. i also looked at the pro-
action sack and to be honest i think it's a fantastic sack
for the price. it seems to be well constructed, has good
straps and padding etc... but the thing that put me off was
the fact that it doesnt have a seperate bottom section.

anyway - i got my new karrimor so i'm going to pack it now

Can't remember about sleeping bags seemed to be mainly
rucsacs and boots (for those people with sizes at the
extremes). A lot of the best stuff has gone already (i.e.
Paclite waterproofs etc.) but they seem to be getting bits
of deliveries every other day or so.

Worth a look if you happen to be passing but not worth
travelling a long way for.

90 litres is *huge* no matter what the configuration, its an
expedition sac really, one to carry as little as possible
and dump as early as possible.

...think of it this way 90 litres = 90kg (of liquid) 8-)

My big bag will go up to about 85 if I push the extension up
all the way. It has a zip out divider shelf but it's /years/
since I've used
it. As long as you've got a separate entrance at the bottom
IME an actual physical partition in the bag isn't that
useful and just serves to make optimising the packing
more difficult.

My sleeping bag usually travels in a lightweight Ortlieb dry-
bag, which is all the "separate section" it needs. It
completely isolates the bag from the rest of the contents
and is easy enough to pull out on its own.

Not necessarily. Think of it this way, you won't need to
compress your sleeping bag. You could pack a few helium
baloons too.

Dainty I think. Just the job for his style of wild camping.
I seem to remember him carrying two large carrier bags in

While we're on the subject of backpacks I recently needed to
buy a replacement pack for backpacking, about 75 litres. I
really had a look around and have ended up with an Osprey 75
litre Crescent Bag. I don¹t know anyone who has used an
Osprey before but I'm very impressed. Their whole range
looks very good - real quality and not too pricey. A worthy
alternative to MacPac and the rest if you have easy access
to Snow and Rock or Field and Trek

That's what I'm looking for, I think.

When I go camping, I take the world on my back. I take far
too much stuff. However, one of these days I am going to
have an enjoyable walking/camping trip with a 45 litre
rucksack. So, I'm looking for a tiny, light, warm, cheap
sleeping bag [1] and I had a feeling that Karrimor had (at
some point) made one.

I will never be a Mountain (or any other sort of) Marathon-
runner, though!
