Decent tubular tyres?

Road or track?
I love the smell of Vittoria Mastic Gutta in the laundry....
(only use that for track, its v. messy!)
The question is ot stir or not to stir? (Mastic users will know what I'm
talking about)

If they are for track or road, what surfaces they will be used on? Are they
for training on or Racing? How much cash are you willing to part with?

I use Continental Tempo 22 tubulars (retail around $160 each) on my race
wheels. They have a very fine file pattern tread which works well on both
concrete and board tracks. Not the fastest tyre around but they wear pretty
well in comparison to say a Continental Sonderclasse, an Andre Dugast
Black, or Vittoria Atlanta Gold etc. I've also ridden a Corima Disc that
had a Vittoria Corsa Evo CX which was not a bad ride but being a road
tubular didn't quite have the same feel as my usual Tempo tubs did on the
board track at Dunc Gray. But there again this may have been due to the
ride characteristics of the wheel rather the rubber mounted on it.

As far as glue goes I have used both Continental and Clement brand cements
with out any problems at all thus far.

Continental also sell tubular glue .

Conti, Schwalbe, Ritchey, Vittoria etc all make good tubulars but the
company that produces the widest range of tubulars is TUFO in the Czech
Republic. The company was started by M. Klabal in the early 90's after the
demise of Barum's tubular division when Conti bought them.. Czech has a big
tradition in tubular tyres & is where most club riders still use tubulars
plus you can buy training tubulars at larger supermarkets!
Tufo: No big advertising, don't supply any big trade teams, don't outsource
to Thailand but just specialise in making good tubular tyres.

Nicest race road tubs I've tried are Conti Competition and the Tufo S3 (both
not a stupid-light tyre). Tufo wears better.
Use either continental or vittoria 'road' glues - they dry pretty clear and
don't make as much mess as Vittoria Gutta (which is bright red to highlight
any mistakes you make). You will make a mess if you haven't glued on some
tyres before.
Realise if you want to glue them on properly, it will be a overnight/several
day process (you need to stretch the tyre and apply a few layers of glue),
so don't plan on racing them the same day that you get them!
