  1. ....and that's before I even left for the ride!

I parked my car in an unusual place on my driveway this afternoon, to be in
    the shade.

Then I got ready to go on a (solo) night ride. Pumped up tires and lubed
chain; loaded up the vehicle; all set.

Walk around to driver's side -- branches brush head causing me to duck just
as I open car door. WHAM! Corner of window hits me just above the right
    eyebrow.

    Pain with pretty stars. "Son of a [censored]!" (or similar) I exclaim out loud;
no neighbors around to witness. (Or at least they were polite enough not to
    point and snicker.)

Nice gash in forehead; bleed like stuck pig on way to ride.

Apple core feels nice and cool against wound as I arrive at trailhead.
Headband soaks up remaining flow. Helmet presses on new bumpage now
    adorning head.

Ride was (f)uneventful; Padres beat Giants easily; small little scar (1/2"
    or so) remains.

Bill "Neosporin or Bacitracin or whatever's in that little tube" S.

    From Tuesday's Daily Telegraph:

    Self-harm becoming 'epidemic'
    (Filed: 27/07/2004)
The problem of people deliberately harming themselves is reaching "epidemic"
    proportions in Britain.

New figures reveal more than 170,000 people a year seek hospital treatment
after self-harm. Most of them are teenagers and young adults, the newspaper
    says.

The figures are being released by the Government's drugs and treatment
assessment body, the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (Nice).

They have been compiled for the first time amid concern over an escalation in
the number of youngsters hurting themselves with cuts, burns or mutilation in
    attempts to relieve mental pain.

The true number could be much higher, experts warn, as many do not go to
    hospital for treatment.

Experts looking into years of life lost due to various conditions, found
self-harm and suicide were third to heart disease and cancer, the newspaper
    said.

New guidelines for the treatment of self-harm are expected to be released by
    Nice tomorrow.

At least it wasn't all bad. I got a good laugh out of it!

Now that we know you are OK, I think the unanswered question remains: is the car OK (no dents, dings, lash marks)?

Chicks dig scars, or so I heard once. ;-)

I imagine there's some DNA sticking to that window corner; shall go check
    for flies shortly.

They only dig scars on *us* young studs. It only makes the elderly
    look even more <sigh> weathered.

If we are only as young as we feel...I'm screwed! Damn, and I had such a good day at work.

    K "feeling the abuse".
