    Just acquired a s/h Dawes Galaxy, and introduced it to my wife without
    me having to protect my 'nads. Pehaps New Years Eve is the time to add
    yet "Another bloody bike! - What do you want with a fifth bike!' as the
    day after is a fresh start. :-)

    I'm amazed that all of my bits are still functioning and remain attached.

    Anyway, the Galaxy is the last but one piece in the jig saw for some long distance touring next
    year. Just got to shed some lard, use the turbo trainer to supplemet some real cycling and convince
    myself that LEJOG in ten days is a realistic option.

    Happy New Year everyone including 4WD owners :-)

    Are you serious about LEJoG next year. I am planing doing it in about 12 or 13 days. When are you
    thinking of starting ? Have you had any thoughts about how to get to the start ?

    FIVE ? - is that all? - No 14 is currently sitting in my office at home with the over-varnished
    transfers drying after a repaint job and No 15 is arriving on Friday - that's a rather old Townsend
    postie bike (Don't ask!)

    BTW - I joined the Galaxy ranks a while ago with a 1975 model that I lovingly took to pieces, had
    painted and then rebuilt, it's now my best loved machine.

    The Galaxy is an excellent long distance touring machine. You won't be disappointed.

    I'm deadly serious about LEJOG.. I'm plotting out all the campsites that I can find on a cheapo road
    Atlas before I start route planning. I've also joined the camping and caravanning club of Great
    Britain as they have a network of small sites that are members only, several of which are behind
    pubs - a perfect pitch if you ask me!

    My starting time is dictated by my holidays. I'll be setting off from Lands End on 14th August and
    aim to be in JOG ten days later to give me time to get back to Leeds to prepare for a bank holiday
    weekend Jolly at Barkstone Heath where I'll be competing in vintage team racing by flying model
    aircraft that were designed before 1960.

    I'll already be in Cornwall near Newquay for the preceding fortnight. I'm more concerned about
    getting back as Scotrail do not appear to be very accomodating with bikes.

    I'm looking forwards to a long association with it. I'm hoping to clock up 1500 miles on it this
    year in addition to the mileage clocked up on my other bikes.

    Inverness and get the GNER to York and ride home from there. When I bought the tickets in 2002 it
    was £30 cheaper for Inverness-York rather than Inverness-York-Leeds.

    My dates are constrained by being a teacher, can't do much about choosing dates other than selecting
    from the slots left in the six week break after taking out three weeks for family holiday,
    aeromodelling weekends and preparations. I suppose I could emulate the tube train driver who nearly
    brought one of the tuble lines to a halt, and go on the sick then claim that the ride was pre-return
    therapy :-)

    The fare structures are a complete joke. Next weekend I'll be travelling to London by train for
    £12 return including free tea and coffee. It's a pity Midland Mainline's franchise doesn't extend
    north of Leeds.

    My folks are in Hartlepool so Morley to Hartlepool makes a convenient 95 mile day.

    A firend of mine is talking about doing a motoring holiday in Scotland and driving me home so theres
    another possibility. I'm not going to rely on him just yet though.
