He's retired - well into his 70s now, so I think he
'overtook' Murray Walker! But I heard he may be commenting
from the studio. -

I know that "Callas" wasn't intentionally being rude, but I
for one would like to record my very sincere thanks to David
(Duffield) for his absolutely /superb/ cycling commentaries. When I was forcibly migrated from Channel 4 to Eurosport for
coverage of the Tour de France, my initial impression was
that Eurosport wasn't a patch on C4, and I far preferred
Phil Ligget to David Duffield. Having now been a Eurosport
convert for several years, I've grown to not only /like/ but
to positively /relish/ DD's comentaries, and I now include
him in my personal shortlist of radio and television
presenters whose contributions have been (IMHO) positively
outstanding. These include (in no particular order)
Alistaire Cooke ("Letter from America"😉, Phil Drabble("One
Man and his Dog"😉, Jack Hargreaves ("Out of Town"😉, Arthur
Negus ("Going for a Song"😉, and now David Duffield. So, from one convert, a very sincere "Thank you", David. I
don't know if it was your decision or Eurosport's, but if it
was the latter, then I urge them to reconsider. Your
commentaries were a work of art, and probably the most
entertaining transmissions on televison today. And if it was
your decision, then I wish you many many /many/ years of
happy retirement.Philip TAYLOR
