Get yer latest VN and check out the interview with the guy from OLN,
seems they're tring to market, package, cycle racing. The TdF,
unfortunately is about all viewers flock to see. Be glad they still
cover the Giro and Vuelta. Meanwhile viewers are flocking to see PBR
bull riding every night -- to be fair and objective -- when I go down to
the pub 99% of the people there can watch a man try to sit on the back
of a raging bull for 8 seconds and have some vague idea what's going on
or get that visceral pleasure out of it that they can't with a deep
sport like cycling. Then some dope comes in and wants to watch the
giants or a's and half the bar leaves.

This first stage is a doozy, under 10 Km to go and Christophe Laurent
and Jimmy Casper had a lead which looked like it should hold, but it
seems to be coming down quick and the feed isn't updating often enough
to suit me! =:-)

Maybe it's not being televised anywhere, or they couldn't work a deal with
whoever is covering it. I assume that OLN doesn't have a camera crew
(motorcycles, helicopters) to cover European cycling events, they take the
same feed as everyone else. No feed, no coverage.

Saturday and Sundays stages are being covered on French TV, so maybe OLN
will be able to pick up their feed then.

As of today, OLN hasn't announced anything, but it's probably going to
have small coverage in the "Road to the Tour" show. Still, I'd like to
see how things unfold. I'm still bummed because my Replay TV (due to my
not understanding how it worked) taped over an important mountain stage in
the Giro.

professional basketball in Germany. She says they're nuts about the
sport there, so I'd expect German coverage of the NBA finals.

Exactly ! And in France, a new cable channel was recently added - NBA all
day and night.

NBA finals are available, on CANAL +
As far as The Stanley cup, i don t know, but it should be somewhere on a
sattelite pacakge.

climbs or is it mostly flat?

Here, there be mountains, smallish, but some legbreakers for any who
seek them out. Damon Kluck (USPS) trains out here.

In Paris there are a couple of hills (Montmarte, Telegraph), but I don't
recommend using them in training. Too many cars. Other than that, Paris is
quite flat. There are some little hills around Paris. Seems that when the
TdF comes through here, they manage to get a category 3 in the route. But
nothing serious in the area.

Actually, there's some nice hills south of Versailles in the Chevereus
Vallee. Don't know what they rate on the tour scale, but the rides on
Tuesdays and Thursdays from Bullion can really rip your legs off.

There are actually some nice climbs in Paris. My favorite is in
Montmartre, about 6% with huge cobbles. Interestingly, I climb
it faster than I descend it. On the other hand, any real riding
is buffered by about 15 to 20 miles of "communist" suburbs, that
is unbelievably depressing concrete structures, so it's no fun
to ride there.

Riding in Paris is sort of OK, except you have to deal with other
cyclists, scooters, and motorcycles, any of whom may attack you
at any time if you delay them on the cycle path (!), or have
the audacity to stop at a red light. I have to take long breaks
due to frustration with them, e.g., a motorcyclist kicked my front wheel
after finally passing me because I had previously prevented him
from passing me on the 3 ft wide cycle lane and as we were
heading towards a red light.

Well, I suppose you could drive to the Santa Cruz mountains, which is
what I had in mind when I wrote my previous comment.
