Hi - All of my nails have a dark color band, just below the white
exposed nail growth. The dark color band is about 1 or 2mm in width.
What could be causing this and what vitamin(s) am I possibly deficient
in? I do drink a lot of beer, but also take a lot of vitamins, CoQ10,
Milk Thistle, others ---- so hoping to figure out what is the deal.
Thanks for any insights!

Thanks for any insights! That sounds like heavy metal poisoning.
Check your gum line next to your teeth.
A blue-gray line there usually points to lead poisoning if I remember
correctly?http://www.zebracards.com/MO-704.html

On the CSI TV series, lines on fingernails were clues to poisoning. I think
they called them Meese lines and they were white.<[email hidden]> wrote in message

Well, I know it's definitely not any dastardly disease such as arsenic
or lead poisoning. I have good control over my food and drink
consumption, drink bottled water etc. There could be a variety of
things it could be. From my research, what I have is called "while
nail syndrome" (http://www.drfoot.co.uk/whitenail.htm). Arsenic or
lead poisoning can definitely cause this problem. From all the things
I've seen the cause of this is pretty vague at best, maybe 100
different scenerios can cause it. Vitamin deficiency is listed as a
leading cause of this nail problem too. I take lots of vitamins and
recently included Biotin and actually have noticed an improvement with
my nails in the last 90 days, slightly, but hope to hone in on what I
am missing from my diet to fix this. I think vitamins is the problem
since I drink beer and work a lot, and maybe should eat better. My
nails do not look as bad as any picture example I have seen on the
Internet -- the dark color is more like light-medium tan coloration
below the white nail growth. Getting better, but imagine some mineral
is missing from my diet that could help to improve this.Cubit said:

Thanks for any insights! And you totally ignored my post that it was most likely some kind of
toxic exposure. I've been studying vitamin therapy and nutrition for
over 10 years. There ARE some nail defects caused by deficiencies, but
this is not one of them!I even took some of my precious time to post you a link to toxic
fingernail phenomenon from Google. Did you BOTHER to look there?Sheesh!

Hi. Cool down boss. You have a very strong, forceful and confident
opinion there about White Nail Syndrome. Maybe you need some lithium?
That link you sent was actually pretty vague and general regarding WNS.
The nail problem I have certainly, as you say, might be toxic
exposure.... and that is one of many potential causes. Frankly, there
are too many scenarios to know for sure, toxic exposure and non-toxic
exposure related. Maybe vitamins are the cause of it? Some herbal
vitamins are known to contain inordinate amounts of heavy metals. On
the flip side Vitamin deficiencies are also linked to WNS. I need to
continue sourcing related information and possibly go see a doctor if
it gets worse for tests. Fortunately, it has gotten marginally better
since I changed my diet and threw out some iffy vitamin brands I was
taking.Thank you for your time earlier, it wasn't passed over and didn't go
unnoticed.-GC

I'm not sure where you would go for the testing, but presumably you could
clip off some hair and send it to a lab. Then there is the old fall back of seeing a doctor....
I've saw a TV documentary of a crime where a nasty neighbor poisoned some
soft drink bottles and then put them in his victim's garage.Since this is USENET, it is possible he just made the whole thing up to see
what reactions he would get. If there really are no lines on his nails,
then he can be sure we are wrong about the possibilities.<[email hidden]> wrote in message
