Dark Chocolate lowers BG?

  1. After six trials of adding unsweetened Baker's choc to my oatmeal, I've found my 45 minute BG
    readings reduced by an avg 20 points over the same meal without choc. Dark chocolate is full of
    antioxidants. The unsweeted choc (1/2 oz) adds a bitter taste that I counteract with artifical
    sweetener. My 400 calorie oatmeal - choc - pb - yogurt meal: 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1/2 cup lite yogurt,
    1/2 oz baker's choc, 1 cup water - microwave for 6 minutes at medium (5). Then stir in 1.5
    tablespoons of peanut butter or almond butter. I use natural pb.

    And properly applied involving your sweetie, it can lead to increased exercise working it
    off. Yowzah!

  4. The comparison meal is identical except for the choc. To maintain the same amount of fat in both
    meals, the choc. meal has 70 calories less of the peanut butter. I don't know if the bitter taste of
    the unsweetened choc has anything to do with the BG lowering, but I'd suspect that. BTW, the
    saturated fat in the choc, stearic acid, is unique in that it doesn't raise chol levels like most
    saturated fats.

    however, is whether measurements at other times are up or down, and what it does to your A1C and
    insulin secretion.

    And whether the artificial sweetener or the carbohydrates removed with the peanut butter made any
    difference.

    My BG seems to vary about 20 points with the same exact meal. For six readings it varies from 100 to
    140, with 120 being the mean. It doesn't seem to matter what time of day. I don't know if that's
    usual or not. Please post if the choc makes a difference for you. For the A1c, I'm hoping that lower
    BG will mean lower A1c.
