Them's the breaks with E-bay. Hang in there though. It took a few months but I scored my dream frame on e-bay at less than 40% of the regular price and it was brand spanking new and perfect.

not illegal; its an automated bidding program that automatically bids to the level you specify in the last few seconds of auction. Free! It sounds like it was used to win your item, btw.

Bummer!! Not that this will make you feel better, but I missed an as-new C-50 which went for $3500 with full D/A, I waited untill the last 8 seconds and for some reason my browser hung up....it was a local bike too, I could have just driven over the next day and picked it up!!
Oh well....let's not give up huh??

Of couse, if someone else has a proxy bid higher then the amount you specify to be bid @ the last moment, you will still lose. However, most people do not put the highest amount they are willing to bid. They keep nickel and diming it for days on end.....(pushing the price even higher). So, it works many times to swoop in @ the last minute. People just don't want to bid their max and let the proxy take over.....they like to play.....BTW, it's called sniping. And those who do it are called snipers. It's bidding without tipping your hand two days before the auction even ends like everyone else, bumping it up 2 cents evenry hour.
Snipe. It's the only way to bid.....

Definitely, I have only bought five things on EBAY, but I have won five out of six using a free snipe tool. I must say, putting in a bid five days before the auction ends, what is the point with that? You are just contributing to driving the price up, for something you wanna buy. -

Not that it is any consolation but I was bidding on a Easton Monkeylite Carbon bar and I lost it in the last second. I did not refresh fast enough... 🙁
The finaly selling price was like $50...I was so bummed...but it ended up working out ok I ended up winning a Easton EA50 bar for like $25...it was a much better deal. -
If there's one thing I've learned... there's always another (sometimes better) auction. I was bidding on a pair of Zipp 303s and lost. The highest bidder didn't pay and they were relisted. I got them cheaper than the original bid.
