  1. Hi,

I'm looking into buying a new Cyclocross bike. So far I've been considering the following...

    Cannondale Cyclocross
    Fuji Cross Comp
    Redline Conquest
    Specialized Tricross Sport
    Trek X0 1

I used to do a lot fo road racing years ago and have owned a Vitus, Marinoni, Raleigh, Cannondale and a few others. With this bike I'll be doing basic commuting, road, and trail riding... probably about 100 miles a week. I'm looking to spend around $1000. However, I can be convinced to spend a little more if it puts me into a significantly better machine.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    - Jonathan

I bought a 2006 conquest pro and have a lot of problems with it (i.e. crank and headset problems). I am not pleased!!

I would go with Trek or Cannondale as they are they more tried and true.

Probably a bit late, but for what it's worth, I picked up a Trek XO 1 and find it pretty solid. The only thing I didn't like about it were the tires that came with the bike.

I use mine primarily for commuting and had about 5 flats in the first 2 months I owned the bike. The tires seemed to be wearing real fast as well. I changed to Bontrager's Satellite Plus and am quite pleased with it. No flats since...

  6. My husband rides a Jamis Nova and LOVES it.

We've been trying to find a cross bike for me but my standover is
too short for them. Gotta get a hybrid and put cross tires on it.

Good luck, cross bikes just haven't made it into the mainstream yet.
Give 'em a couple years, let those who buy mtn bikes for road riding catch on that they are too heavy and have too much drag for the road.
