Cyclists In Manchester area

I'm in Hyde, I cycle for fitness/weight loss but still a beginner really,
twenty miles is a long way for me. I ride over Werneth Low, down into Marple
and back via Etherow valley, Charlesworth etc. tbh it's a bit bloody hilly
really, I keep meaning to get out into Chesire (a lap of Woodford to start,
a trip to Jodrell Bank etc) but these are a bit much for my "go riding once
the kids are in bed" regime ;-) also it involves ten miles either way of
suburban nightmare... need a car really but we only have the one, and Mrs B
would be v. upset if I vanished for the day AND took the car! Train from
Stockport would be OK but currently the line to Crewe is US and they are
running bus services :-(

re Oldham areas for cycling, well you've got my problem - every route out
that isn't vertical is urban sprawl. As a raw unfit beginner that was a bit
intimidating, if you are a fit lad already I suppose you will be fine around
the Diggle/Delph area.

C+ had a route thing in this month about Manchester and surrounding area.

Mossley cycling club have club rides every sunday and Mossley is not a
million miles away from Oldham, we usually go out into Cheshire to find some
cycle friendly lanes
We meet about 10.00am. stop at a cafe for a drink and a snack, getting back
around 3.00/4.00 pm. [moderate pace].
If you want to come on any of the rides you are more than welcome.

That *is* funny, because this thread reminded me of one a few years back on "why
are UK bike mags [censored]" or something like that. I think it's inside Google's
past light cone for anyone who wants to search.

The only time I've ever bought those was the couple of times the free gift on
the cover was worth having, and then thrown out the rag straight away before it
could permanently taint the spiritual vibes where I live.
