Exactly - rather than go to the root of the problem - bad and inconsiderate driving, lets make out
it's cycling which is the danger (even if it is due to increased motorised traffic) and get the
cyclists to get off the roads on to cycle paths and into the gutters painted green...

A google for 'Rohan Wilson' produced the following link and recent picture of a Rohan Wilson
connected with Sustrans East of England. Perhaps the BBC journo got it wrong.

Well, they did start the London Cycling Campaign, more than 20 years ago. They also started the
Washington Area Bicyclist Assoc', of Washington DC, at roughly the same time. No doubt they started
other organisations as well.

Since they are claiming to speak for you, and for me too, I guess we have no alternative but to go
along to their meetings and try to make sure their comments are not too bad.

Remember, cycling is unpleasant and dangerous, but its your duty to do it anyway, to save
the planet.

Darned right! Can't have people having *fun* whilst doing their ecological bit to save the
planet ;-)

The above is said tongue-in-cheek, but when I think about it, there's an element of truth in it IME.
Having done some uni courses with conservation/ecology elements to them, why is it that those taking
it seriously as the main part of their studies were *serious* and *earnest* and took themselves
*very seriously*. It really was a bit like one must not have any fun doing this as it's a serious
subject with severe global implications. All of which was a huge turn-off for several doing said
courses. To me, if the course is enjoyable then it makes the whole business much more easy and
digestable and easier to take on board and welcome. If had been just me with the feelings, I would
have put it down to my natural "irrelevant attitude" when I see someone getting their head too far
up their own ar*e, but I wasn't the only one who was feeling bored rigid by the utter "one must not
have fun or enjoy learning as this is too serious a subject" attitude.

I was a member of FoE for many years (not even sure why I lapsed) so I am broadly in favour of
their aims.

They may have had a critical role in setting up pro cycling groups, but the statements on
Peterborough showed a complete lack of appreciation of the needs of cyclists.
