cycling trip to LA

Well, LA is a really big place so to answer your queston we would need to know whereabouts you will be. If you are in the West LA, Marina, Beaches area. I help you out with tons of rides/groups etc. If you are going to be more in the OC area...can help too much.

Thanks for your answer jb. I will be in the Santa Monica Area, but i am also planning on going on a trip for a weekend or so, so both local information as also infos for a weekend trip would be very helpful.

Perfect...you can go to www.lagrange.org for their weekly AM rides. I live very close to SM and ride throuht it almost every ride. You can just point North or South along the coast and do a loop through Palos Verdes or North to some of the Malibu Canyons (Topanga, Malibu, Latigo). Or, a great Sunday AM ride is the Nicholas Canyon Ride with La Grange. From SM you can wind your way through West LA, Beverly Hill, West Hollywood then up to Mullhollond Drive.

thanks for the fantastic link to lagrange.com. I found tons of information about local tours around Santa Monica there. Exactly what i was looking for!

Now there are only two more things i need to find out about:

Firstly, do you know of any bikeshop, that rents out decent road bikes for a week or two? (Since we are coming over from Europe, we won't have our bikes with us) 🙁 Again, location Santa Monica would probavly be best, but otherwise anything sort of closeby would do just as fine i guess.

Secondly, i am also thinking of going for a longer ride while down there. Can you recommend any "tours"/roundtrips for a couple of days to a week, starting from LA and just going 60-100 miles a day? Or is it better to first drive to another place and take tours from there? I am looking for nice roadtrips, hills are fine, but not necessary ... more important is just nice nature/scenery...

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

If you want to ride around the steeets of LA without any traffic you may want to try the LA Bike Tour that is put on in association with the LA Marathon. I've never done it but it seems like a nice way to see LA on a bike.
