I've not been to school for a number of years, but I *never* skipped to school. 😉

The presentation is a good idea. I liked it.

Would it be useful to have in it a slide that can be used to dispell some of the myths about how
dangerous cycling is so that's why the little darlings have to be transported by car?

If you really intended encouraging people to cycle to school then you would have informed readers
that cycling to school is far safer than walking or being driven to school and that as a result
cycle helmets are far less important than car and pedestrian helmets.

I do not like helmets. For normal road cycling I consider them less use as a tin-foil cap to prevent
alien abduction (at least no-one wearing such a cap has been abducted!!).

But, you are being VERY unfair. It would not be possible to get such a presentation past various do
gooders and Health & Safety Nazis without some reference to helmets.

Which is better -- cycling with a helmet or not cycling? Not rocket science is it?

A helmet will do very little good -- but, equally, it will do very little harm.

The most important thing about this work is that it aims to get children to cycle to school. It is
the basic idea of producing some information and turning it into some healthy competition (excuse
the pun) which is important. Please feel free to modify any part you wish if you think it will have
the desired effect. It would be great to have started something positive to encourage cycling. So

Points about helmets are noted. Like I said, it was a health promotion assignment for my nursing
course and the guidelines were that some form of Dept of Health policy had to be included.

Rightly or wrongly, the DoH do encourage helmet wearing, and that is why it is included.

My own views on helmets were irrelevant to this project, however I had a hunch that as parents are
the people who will hopefully give permission for their children to cycle to school then they would
be more willing to allow a helmetted child to cycle than an unhelmetted child. And I have NO
evidence whatsoever to back this up!

Indeed. However, I consider it necessary to deal with those who (whether they realise it or not) are
anti-cycling in a less than grovelling manner.

When these bods start advocating pedestrian and car helmets, which would be far more effective in
absolute and relative terms, then their thoughts will be more believable.

As for, "I was only following government policy", we all know where that sort of blinkered attitude
leads. The involvement of the medical mob in the start of that utter disaster is less well known,
but can be repeated if necessary.

Your message makes a lot of sense.

I'm for wearing them, but one must never forget that the end result is cycling and how you go about
it is a personal choice.
