Which part of the Rhine are you going to do?
From Rotterdam via Germany, Switzerland, Austria to Liechtenstein or just
the German part?
I live 5 km from the Dutch part of the Rhine near the German border. Nice
cycling, also for tandems and lots of places to stay (campsites). I do not
really know the following German parts, but the Ruhr-area is one of the most
densed areas in the world. Lots of (former) coal mines and steel factories.
As from Cologne south it must really be very nice, but is don't know for me.
I do know the area where the Rhine (Rhin/Rhein) is the border between
Germany (Black Fores) and France (Vosges/Elzas).

Done it on a bike on the way to Alpe d'Huez many-many moons ago. Hot as in
frying pan, lots of camp sites. (Pre-) mediaevel churches, small sleepy
towns, vineyards on a hill. Sauerkraut, eisbein and white wine. I liked the
French side better than the German side. From Basel onwards you will travel
through Switzerland but I don't know that part.

is an umbrella group for lots of mini-campings?

Someone mentioned to me something like 'SVR'. I want to
get a directory of camping grounds in The Netherlands.

We rode the bit from Strasbourg to Colmar, but didn't really
see the river until we crossed the bridge at the border.

The riding on the French side (The Alsace) is absolutely
heaven-on-a-stick. Good campgrounds (Camping L'Ill at
Colmar is the best campground we stayed at), lots of
little villages, quiet back-roads, and either very flat
or hilly (you can choose). I would ride it again in an
instant. Couldn't really stop at all the vineyard
cellars, but that might be an option for you. We only
ever carried one bottle of wine.

Oh, and "Pelforth Brune", a lovely dark malty French beer.
One of the only beers to rate 5 stars in my beer tasting
diary.

http://www.svr.nl/ is an association of farmers. Participating farmers offer
small to medium camp sites. I know a few of their sites. Most of them are
focussing on the average family with children
The site is in Dutch and you need an username/password to gain access to
their site. SVR Members only.

There must be other web sites covering NL and neighboring countries. I'll
have a look.
