Can we please put the myth of aerodynamic cycling positions to rest when it comes to climbing efficiency. Its laughable how many of you still think that shaving a few grams off your bike and tucking your chin to your knees is going to make a significant difference on a 10% gradient. Newsflash: it doesnt. What actually matters is your ability to produce power relative to your body weight, and if youre not addressing that, then youre wasting your time fiddling with your saddle height and handlebar position.
So, Id like to propose a radical idea: the most efficient climbing position is actually the one that allows you to produce the most power, regardless of aerodynamics. That means a more upright position, with your weight centered over the bike and your legs able to generate maximum torque. Its not about being aero, its about being strong. And if youre not willing to put in the work to build your leg strength, then maybe you should just stick to spinning on the flats.
So, go ahead and argue with me about how my proposal is unscientific or ignores the fundamentals of aerodynamics. I dare you. But until you can produce some actual data to back up your claims, Im sticking to my guns: the key to efficient climbing is power, not position.
