I've been watching some of their free stuff over the last few weeks. I'm no
techno-geek. Maybe other systems can get a larger picture than mine can.
Mine's about the size of standard post-it note. Kinda hard to watch for too
long. But I've enjoyed the coverage I've seen. The camera stays on the
action and the commentary seems well-informed. No Kirstin Gum, Al
Trouthead, etc.

I haven't paid for one of their live race broadcasts yet. I think I'll wait
to see what you think of it. But it's hard to beat the part you get for
free. The price is right.

If you've tried Aria TV's cycling channel, can you also give comparison of
the two services?

A bunch of the larger races (giro, tour, vuelta) are on Eurosports feed
for free. They aren't broadcast in English, but again, no Gumm or
Trouthead....

Can often get live audio (even in English) from Eurosport. But I've never
seen live streaming video from Eurosport, only the occasional short
interview clips ... Or 5-15 second refreshing stills.

Where can you get live streaming video from Eurosport?

Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne is live on the same site for absoultely free,
which is quite cool. I'll see what that's like and pay for some later
stuff if the quality is good enough.

KBK being offered free on cycling.tv, 2hr49min replay of today's race.

I thought it was pretty cool to see KBK on cycling.tv, but the commentary
was driving me nuts. They spent way too much time doing shout-outs and
hometown howdies, they mis-identified riders, and didn't seem to know that
Nuyens had abandoned. The best thing was to cut off the sound and open up
Jeff's live commentary in side-by-side windows.

Devolder was very impressive, not only because he neutralized Boonen solo,
but also because he did it with bare legs. Lotto-Davitamon must be eating
their livers; Maalox helps. When the Discovery rider went after Van Impe,
the last guy I thought it could be was Hincapie. Congrats to George.

Surely Chianti would be a more tasteful choice.
Perhaps we could ask David Duffield for a ruling. The
commentating prattle was annoying, almost as bad as US
non-specialist sportscasters doing World Cup soccer, I
saw a little bit of one of their other videos and didn't
get the impression it was quite as dense with shout-outs.
Still an impressive treat - maybe there is something to
this Internet stuff after all.

I had it running in postage-stamp size Windows Media Player
since my bandwidth was limited, and the media player button
bar covers up the bottom part of the screen, where captions
appear, sprinting riders cross the line, etc. Is there a
cure for that problem?

(Other than Linux/mozilla/mplayer, which I'll probably try on
general principles anyway.)

also 80% of it. misprounouncing names is also a british affectation i

id'ing riders is pretty hard if half the riders have the same jersey
too.

chiefly Dutch and French names like a native, 99% of the American
audience will probably start emailing them and ask what the hell is
wrong with reception.

Was sounding British 80% of having a good voice, or of being a lousy
commentator..?

what i meant is, it's pretty much a requirement that a cyclingb
commentator have a british accent. the british can get away with
mispronounciations more than north americans can.

pronouncing names to sound too "authentic" is also a distracting
affectation.
