Oh 3 was a great film - something the wind? Racing the WInd? Can't remember.

2. Le Triplettes de Belleville (haven't seen it yet).

And I just saw in the TV listings here another one called "Beijing Bicycle" that looks first class, about a poor kid in Beijing who goes to work as a courier, his boss loans him a VTT that he falls in love with and he starts working hard to buy the bike for himself, but then, it gets stolen...

I'll give a full review when I've seen it.

Belleville Rendezvous, my favourite movie of last year. An absolute must-see for any cyclist, of course, but a brilliant film that you could easily subject any non-cycling member of your family to. It's very, very funny, has great music and some thoroughly enchanting animation.

I remembered another: Beijing Bicycle - more a movie about a bicycle than about cycling per se, but still counts in my book.

There's an American movie out called The Hard Road, following the trials and tribulations of a cycling team in the U.S.
Anyone know where to get it on Region 4 DVD ?

I found American Flyers at Walmart for $5.88. (Ya never know where you will find a bargain). 😄

I picked it up too Cipher! In the big 5.88 bin.

Wasn't there some movie with Selic (sp?) as a courier or something? Think I remember a plot along those lines. I'll see what I can find.

I was thinking of this...Think it was lame and not really about cycling, but they did ride bikes at least :
Quicksilver (1986)

Don't forget "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" with Paul Reuben (aka Pee Wee Herman). It's the story of a man-child who got his bike stolen. Pee Wee then spends the rest of the movie crossing the country in search of his beloved bike and getting into wacky adventures along the way.

Not exactly the movie at the top of my favourite list but you wanted movies about bikes so.....

I was wondering why people keep referring to it as Triplets of Belleville until I discovered that is what it is called in the US. Here in the UK it's called Belleville Rendezvous.

Whatever you call it, it's a great film. There are certain moments where, as a cyclist, you just say: "Yes! that is so true!"

And what's more I was fortunate enough to win a copy on DVD via a radio email competition yesterday. Woo-hoo!

Another lovely film that features cycling is an early Truffaut short called "Les Mistons" (aka The Kids/The Brats) which opens with an utterly beautiful shot of a boy on his bicycle.

And let's not forget the films of Jacques Tati - there's L'Ecole des Facteurs, which is about some French postmen who want to be as fast as the American postmen on their bikes (hmm, sounds familiar...), and Jour de Fete, which reprises much of material from L'Ecole des Facteurs for Tati's character Francois the postman.

I remember a film when I was a kid (60's / 70's) which was on TV and was based around a rider in the TdF. I think there was a murder/manslaughter case involved (that may just be my chain jumping a tooth).

It remains a (distant) memory because (a) it was the first time I knew of the existence of bicycle racing and (b) I grew up without TV, so getting to view a dishwashing liquid advertisment on TV would hold enough kudos to gain a position in my Memory Hall of Fame.

Sylvain Chomet sure didn't...there is at least one homage to Tati in "Belleville." In the triplets' flat there is a poster for "Les Vacances de M. Hulot" on the wall.

Does anyone know where I can get a DVD of Les Triplettes de Belleville (Belleville Rendezvous)? I checked my local video store and eBay without success. I saw in on the big screen and loved it! Looking for a DVD for my collection.

Pretty sure it's not out on DVD yet on this side of the pond.

Also, during the movie, when the triplettes are together at the bedroom watching TV, the movie they are watch is, "Jour de Fete" from Mr. Tati, who is a post office messenger who delivers the mail using a bike. Specifically, they are watching the final part of the movie, in a sequence when the postman wanted to become as efficient as the American postmen (go watch the movie and see why!!!!) and also became part of a cycling race during the process.

"Triplettes" join three of the best things I wanted to see in a movie: cycling, clever animation (less Disney-type) and 'silent' humor, like Jacques Tati used to do in his movies (Playtime is the best example).

This year, move on 'Nemo' because 'Triplettes' will win best animation feature at the Oscars!!!!🙂

There's also a great Canadian French movie called "2 Seconds" produced by Wolf Media and can be found on both amazon.com or amazon.fr

There's are pretty lame movie from 1985 called "Key Exchange" - a story about a guy having problems committing to his girlfriend. It's story doesn't focus on cycling but the guy is into racing. The weird thing is that I seem to remember him also smoking like crazy! The guy's best friend is also played by Daniel Stern (Cyril from "Breaking Away"😉.
