Hello all,
Well since i ran over a pedestrian last week i have been thinking of getting myself some insurance. I know the british cycling federation offers a gold membership for £58.
Has anyone used the service or any other cycling insurance companies and if so can you recomend any?
Cheers all.

i use direct line for our home contents insurance.. i asked them about the bike.. they said 10 pound extra per month on premium i will however enquire more tho and post here... -
The links I have on British Bike insurance are below.
I am new to all this after a gap of many years and have been wondering what the best policy is.
The first two links below offer persoanl liability insurance and legal advice. That in the most extreme circumstances must be more important that the price of a bike.
I expect the cheapest bike cover must be to add it to House Insurance, and the third party liability cover of the house policy ought to be enough. Activating the legal protection cover of the house policy should give me some free legal support if I knock a Grannie over - but I haven't read the small print.
I expect the protections of CTC or BCF are better, more focused and more expert.
I would welcome input from someone more experienced.

Cheers all.3rd party insurance is included in CTC membership I believe, and its only about £30 a year. I believe that they have a deal with another cylce insurance firm to provide theft and loss insurance at competetive rates.
Check it out.

Any good home insurer should be able to add the bike on an all risk basis (ie theft, accidental damage, etc) and include personal liability for the rider for a small annual cost. My home insurer charged me £16 for this (Ansvar Insurance).

lol i changed my contents insurance last month...
from direct line... who wanted to charge a tenner for the bike to be put on...
to norwich union who are half the price of the contents cover with direct line... including the bike...
they charged me £2.76 i think it is for the bike per month..l
cool or what..
even with full contents (35k cover), the bike, and accidental cover. our premiums are half of what we paid direct line for 16k contents cover no bike added..
i asked them if there was a clause (needing the broken lock if stolen) they said as long as i could prove that it was indeed mine in first place and provide evidence of damage to street fixtures etc or witnesses to say it was where it was when stolen... then they would pay
many insurance comanies want you to provide the lock that got cut thru to make a claim, but as anyone knows sometimes theives cut thru the bike stands we see on our streets (i refer to those dumb curly tube things) all that is needed is portable angle grinder and brute force to bend cut tube and slide bike including lock off tube put in van never see again no insurance payout...
this company reckons take a pic of cut tube they pay...
only one way to find out and i dont wanna find out to tell you the truth lol

mine is worth around £550 replacement value..yours is £2000 what does it do make a cup of coffee at the lights does it?
too much for a bike cars cost less.. nothing can justify that cost and i dont care what anyone says the thing is only for getting from one place to another.. for that price i would expect a teleporter to transport me magically to the top of hills...

Its easy to justify.... I get one hell of a lot of enjoyment from riding and racing it!!! Its not just for getting to A to B!!!! I tell ya its like a transporter in that the hills are now effortless ;D

Does the CTC membership including third party cover run for a calendar year (Ie January - December) or like an insurance policy from date of payment for one year?
Is there a cheaper way of getting dedicated cycling third party cover? My bike is not worth insuring, but I am!
-
does accidental cover mean if you have an accident and wreck your bike they will pay? or am i getting the wrong end of the stick?
