Cycling Glasses with Rx

It's been a bit frustrating for me as well, especially since one's Rx typically cannot be incorporated into curved lenses (e.g. cycling sunglasses).

Fortunately for me, my Rx is mild and I can see very well without it. Would I not be able to do so, the obvious options would be contacts, or Lasik, as I refuse to wear those clumsy clip-ons.

Are you taking the inserts off constantly or just leaving them on? I'm considering a set of the Performance ones for myself.

Weeks ago the insert started to crack, then a small piece fell out but they still held. So, I only took them out if needed to clean them -- which has to be done occasionally.

The portion of the connector that is broken off is closest to my nose, and they seem to stay in wedged between the holder and the sunglasses. Will try it that way next time I ride.

Zeal Optics specializes in optics for activewear (they also make Rx ski goggles, motocross goggles, etc.). I have a pair and really like them. However, you are talking big cost when you get polarized, polycarb lenses w/ all of the coatings, no matter which brand you get. Zeal has some sweet frames, comparable to Oakley or Smith. Also, they are made in the US (Moab, Utah), and they have a great frame replacement policy.

I've used, and highly recommend Bolle glasses with Rx inserts. I have two pair, used them for years with zero problems. Right now there are some killer deals on Bolle Vigilantes at some e-tailers.

Exactly. I got the Vigilantes at Wal-Mart last spring. $50 for the glasses, $20 for the insert, plus another $20 for lenses. They work fine...highly recommend.

Maybe I'll stop by Wal-Mart this weekend. Those prices look pretty good.

Zeal Optics look great, too, but pricey.

Bolle was sold about 10 years ago by Price Club (now Costco), and they had a quality problem as I remember.

I quit messing with these years ago and instead get a contact prescription every few years when I'm in for service on my glasses. A year's prescription of lenses is about $80 bucks for simple lenses at Wal-Mart and they last about 3 years as I only wear them to cycle and swim. The correction isn't perfect as I have astigmitism but my doctor lets me buy the cheaper lenses that don't correct as they are for active wear only. It's a lot easier, especically if you encounter rain and changing light conditions on your ride.

a bunch of their models have Rx adapters and you can change out the front lenses for clear/colours/tints AND if you scratch the outer lenses they give you a new pair free, no questions asked as many times as you want

i wear RB3s which have got the sunglasses on a flip up unit attached to the rest of the frame so that if i'm wearing tints and i drive into a dark carpark etc and i've got the tints in i can just flip em up

I've been thinking about just such contacts for use riding. May be the best bet, although at age 62 it's a little late to start messing with them.

I've used the Bolle Paroles (smaller version of Vigilantes) with a Rx insert for around 5 years. They're still in fantastic shape. They come with either two or four lenses.

Contact lenses are the go in my opinion and experience.
