ive got this coach who is alright, he spends a lot of time on cycling forums but mostly treats me right!! 😄 😄

You're only the third Paul on this forum who lives in Brisbane and wants to get faster.

Paul, join a club and ask them about coaching - that's your best bet.

Paul, Lotte's right, your first bet is to join a club (you'll need to
do this anyway if you want to race). A lot of clubs have
coaches that work with club members. However (and this is my niche)
not all that many of them are interested in helping non-elite riders.
You may get lucky, or you may get brushed aside. I know I was when I
started. My club didn't have the resouces to help a late 20's bloke
get started with racing.

Then, there's commercial coaches, of which I am one. So, take what I
write with that in mind (I'm trying to be impartial, but I do have
an interest in people getting professional/commercial coaching!). I
can't comment on the rates for coaches in Brisbane, but around here
it varies from pretty expensive (Kathy Watt/Corey Hall are amazingly
expensive, $66 per week) to pretty cheap - I charge $44 a month for
example, and a range in between. Some coaches charge for meetings,
some charge or restrict how much you can contact them etc.

It pays to do a fair bit of research, look at websites, talk if you
can to other riders who are getting coached and see what their stories
are. Then, talk to the coaches, find out what they offer for your
money. Remember that while you don't necessarily need a coach to be
close to you (I have a couple of interstate clients, for example) it
does help for some things.

You can also coach yourself, but it is difficult. Not because
designing
a training program is some great secret, but because it's difficult to
be
objective with yourself. There's lots of great books, Joe Friel's
"The Cyclists Training Bible" is one very good one, for example,
