Don't forget the Waratah Vets at Homebush, the biggest road racing club in the state
(waratahvcc.asn.auwaratahvcc.asn.auOpen ↗). To race with them you have to be turning 35 or more in the current
calendar year (although I have see juniors racing too, I'm not sure what was going on there). They
are pretty friendly although some of the older guys have literally been riding together for decades
so it can take a while to become part of the scene. I think they have mid-week training rides as
well as Sunday morning racing.

I'm currently hunting for exactly the same kind of club. Eastern suburbs/centre, beginners-advanced riders. The Sydney CC meet up @ Centennial Park most weekday mornings and they give you enough time to get to work by 9. They also have longer rides on the w/e. I haven't enquired yet about joining though, so I don't know the details.

I think I've been past by or tried to jump onto most of them at one time or another, but then I'm a
bit of a [censored] - will ride with any interesting bunch going my way.

Most established shops selling road bikes will know - otherwise try the rides calender in the middle
of the Australian Cyclist magasine. Bunch riding skills look intimidating but in fact are the safest
quickest and the most enjoyable way of riding with mates - if you would like I will send you a
summary of the pretty much common sense rules of the bunch from my club.

Drafting and swapping turns are the most basic and helpful things you can learn from group riding -
and they are skills well worth your learning as well as the friends you will make.

Thanks, Amy. I had been looking at the Sydney CC as well, but they have a reputation for being a bit unfriendly, especially to less experienced cyclists. However, I note from their website that they have a "C" group for most of their long rides, so I think I will give them a try.

Sydney CC regular rides -

Tuesdays - hills (Bondi, Watson's Bay Vaucluse Rose Bay Cranbrook) and back to the park/coffee
Thursdays - flat fast ride to La Perouse down and back Anzac Parade - both leave 6.00 am, back in
the park by 7 ish.

Saturdays - Foreshore drive, breakwater, La Perouse, Anzac Parade, Maroubra, Randwick, Queens Park,
coffee Sundays - Sutherland, Waterfall, sometimes Stanwell, sometimes back through Audley weir,
coffee, both leave 6.30 am, back whenever

All start from in front of the Cannons (cnr Parkes Drive and Grand Drive) near the restaurant.

B & C bunches very tolerant and supportive, diverse folk - A bunch best avoided unless your into
Vogon poetry and like yelling loudly, a lot.

... but if your really into head banging there's the Colluzi bunch, short blacks and excess
testosterone

the Steam triathlon group also do training rides Tues and Thursday - meet
5.45am at the York Rd gates - have 4 grades and paid coaches so you may be asked to pay - nice
folk, good riders, finish about 7 also on weekdays, could end up running and paddling if your
not careful

There are many tribes; try and be on good terms with all of them
