I often wear my lycra shorts with a pair of shorts over the top. The padding
in the lycra shorts is the important bit.

Why on earth anyone prefers to cycle in office clothes I cannot
understand.It is uncomfortable, you get sore, the clothes get and look
ruined, you need a special bike unless you like bits of trouser in the
chain, baggy shorts hoover up flies.
Wear the right clothes and roll up some light trousers for your
saddlebag.
If you think people care about your paunch you could wear Tracksters or
eat less.

I got called a "fat W*nk*r" tonight. Well, it was part of a road rage
incident. I wish I'd said "I know that. That's why I'm cycling 30 miles
tonight. Time you bought one too."

Must admit. In my lycra I must look like a beached whale. One friend told me
the other day that my paunch didn't look too bad in lycra. I think he was
being kind 🙂

You bought poor quality stuff then. My first ever pair of cycling shorts
- by Karrimor - are still in regular use, and, apart from the logo
having mostly come off, are still pretty much as good as new. In fact
I've never had a lycra garment I didn't get good wear out of.

My general everyday clothes don't get ruined on a bike and I don't
get sore in them. And I have no need to waste time changing into
anything special just to cycle anywhere, any more than I need to
change into walking gear to walk anywhere.

For big trips I'll wear more specialised clothes, but not for a
short pootle. It's not wirth the faff, espcially if your clothes
are comfortable.
Firms like Rohan specialise in clothing made in technical fabrics
that don't suffer, and you don't suffer either, if abused a little
bit. There just isn't any need to waste time changing just because
you're on a bike if the journey isn't too long.

Remionds me of a trip to WeightWatchers... I cycled there as usual, and
there's me sat in the hall in cycling kit, so plenty of the stretchy stuff
being worn. Bear in mind I almost always use the bike to get there. Bike
parked in corner of hall as normal...

Woman waiting in queue to pay looks at me, LycraWoman... she says, "You on
your bike again?"

So I said, "No, I just have a thing about Lycra."

Bad luck. I've got some cheapo Lidl & Aldi stuff that's a couple of years
old that is still in almost daily use and is perfectly serviceable.
