  1. Hi, I was wondering which other of you men out there have experienced this:

I've been cycling regularly for the last 3 years.

I was on the exercise bike at the gym today - doing my usual work out - maintaining an average 90 rpm over 20 minutes. I've practised on this exercise bike before and not had any problems.

Anyway, half way through the session, I suddenly had this strange sensation around my male area. It felt slightly stimulated but not necessarily in a sexual way.

Seeing as I was doing 90 rpm, which is quite fast, I was wondering if my movement in the seat might have rubbed the prostrate gland to create this sensation.

The only other time I've had this sensation was when I was cycling at a velodrome - where again, riders reach very high RPMs. However, on my usual long rides, I don't tend to get this sensation.

Is this dodgy and should I avoid the high RPMs?

I would suggest it's more likely to be the saddle cutting off
circulation to your vital bits. If you momentarily lift out of the
sitting position, the blood flows back causing a tingling sensation.

your normal bike probably has the saddle adjusted more to your
    preference than the gym-bike

    Worse in cold weather.

IMHO it's the prostate gland you're referring to, not the prostrate!

Does anyone else remember years ago there was some story about the UK racing
team and numb willies from an anatomical saddle? Istr a doctor suggesting the
problem could be solved by vigorous massage :-)

I didn't think fluffers were normally part of the pro cycling scene.

I wouldn't know, I ride supine, not prostrate...

Well his prostate could be giving him so much pain he is rendered prostrate.

I agree that this is the reason and has nowt to do with your prostate. I
had my cancerous prostate removed a while back and the consequent nerve
damage means that I can't always get erections when I want one - commonly
called ED these days. However, when I dismount after a hard ride that has
obviously restricted the blood flow to john thomas, I get one.
If any of you guys are middle-aged, fer chrissakes go for an annual check-up
and get a PSA test, even if you have to pay for it. It might save your
    life!!
