just completed a 4 day course on becoming a cycling instructor. Tough but
very informative. i Recommend it to any cyclist who wants to improve their
cycling, wants to give something back to cycling and earn a bit of cash
doing it.

i'm pleased you completed it. More cyclists should train as instructors.
i agree that taking the course will improve your cycling and will give
you a much wider outlook on road safety issues. Even though I considered
myself an experienced cyclist the training I undertook has certainly
helped me, and you learn more as you instruct more 'clients'.
It is also a very rewarding experience seeing the improvement in riders' abilities.
The training _can be_ tough and can be extensive, especially when you
add in the child protection/vulnerable adults and first aid requirements.
The last couple of days I've had a lad on a one-to-one who had zero
confidence when having hit a car pulling out of a driveway and wrecking
his bike.
On examining the accident site with him it became clear he had been
riding on the pavement - had he been on the road it would not have
happened.
By this afternoon he was 'controlling' the traffic with excellent road
positioning skills through some so-called traffic-calming islands on the
route to his school (he described it as cool).
He was also riding assertively through fairly busy roundabouts and
thoroughly enjoying himself.
The big problem is now to give his mum the confidence to allow him to
ride to school instead of driving him.
That is usually the biggest nut to crack.
Good luck.
Who will you be working with? Will it be cycletraininguk?
