because it's an MML-specific ticket - it's only valid on MML. TL won't
get any payment from that ticket and if you tried to use it on a TL
train I suspect you'd be risking a Penalty Fare.
[1] Changing trains is not Break of Journey.
So he could purchase in advance both the £8 Leicester-London ticket and
a Bedford-Flitwick ticket and change trains in Bedford station. He
would then not be breaking his journey, merely changing trains (and
tickets). He could claim to be abandoning his outward journey at
Bedford, could he not? Wouldn't this be legal, and cheaper?
Following up to this old thread, I was the OP.
The £8 fare was a 'book the day before' to London, via Midland Mainline.
To get to Flitwick from Leicester, I need to change at Bedford to get a
Thameslink service to Flitwick (MML do not stop at Flitwick).
Hence, the £8 ticket could not be used to get to Flitwick, as it would
mean a change of train company, and the ticket is only valid with MML.
In the end, I bought a reduced, book ahead, £8 fare to Bedford, then a
£4.60 single to Flitwick. £12.60 to do 35 miles less than the £8 fare to
London. It doesnt seem quite right does it?
Anyway, the journey went well.Meridian service from Leic - Bedford.Bike
symbol on the front door opening, but nowhere apparent to leave the
bike, so I just left it at the front, between the 2 doors. The guard came
round later, and said bikes should be in the front luggage compartment,
which is only accessible by the guard. There was no indication of this at
all.Anyway, i was getting off at the next stop, so he said just leave it
there.
TL have a bit more standing room on their trains, so plenty of space
(off peak only no doubt) to lean a bike. There is 1 space for a bike, but
someone else had got there before me.
Got off at Flitwick, and the heavens opened, and I'd prepared for a dry
day.Otherwise it went well.
Alan.
