Hey folkses,
Well, this last Saturday morning, we awoke to a depressed
and worried looking terrier. Never mind that she always looks like that,
this time it seems she had some cause - we found a rather large tic (about
10mm long by about 5mm wide) hanging off her 'nose', just below her eyes, in
the middle. There'd been no sign of it the day before at all, yet we hadn't
been anywhere that there were tics that we could recall.
So, we tried the cigarette trick, with little success. In the end, we just
carefully worked it out with tweezers, then applied tea tree oil, and she
seemed somewhat happier. It was about this point, we remembered that we'd
been to The Lakes the previous Sunday, Kath and the dog walking while Steve,
Mike and I rode - dog musta picked it up then, running through the ferns
around the sheep fields, and it must have been looking for a good spot upon
which to feed, then found it and swelled up virtually overnight.
We checked her over further, and couldn't find any more...until Sunday! -
Yup, found another on her upper chest, same size. This one, not being near
her eyes, and it being easier to hold her body still than her head, we
treated to a blast from my blow-torch lighter, until it started frothing and
oozing from its rear, then we easily pulled it out cleanly with the
tweezers. The dog now was positively ecstatic and did a little dance for us
around the house (silly dog!). She's been very affectionate ever since,
bless!
First time I've actually come across these things myself, little [censored]!
Needless to say, Kath and I did complete skin searches on each other to see
if we had any on us - we didn't, but it sure as hell was fun anyhow!
So Spadie, you find any tics burrowed in you anywhere then?

Cheers!
