    Hi there,

I'm actually going during the Christmas hol's, but in the end I think
I'll probably just plan a route from the map instead.

    Best wishes,

  4. We did it a few years ago over 5 days staying in b+bs- a very interesting
route esp. as it takes in the "back o' Skidda" which was absolutely deserted
at the time, and up Langstrath+Mickleden in a howling gale which was an
experience as we nearly got blown off the hillside climbing up to Stake
Pass. Staying at the ODG was our luxury overnighter-it's just an excellent
place to spend a little time!

I sometimes in the NT carpark next door on Friday nights, and it
certainly does look tempting, particularly when it's raining 😉

I didn't even know where it went but earlier today (Sunday) I walked a
short length of it. How did I know - a gate I went through was thus
    labelled.

Ooh! And did it seem compelling?

Not really. I only did 2 short sections (4 or 500 yards in total) and
one of them was very boggy. I much prefer being up on the ridges rather
than down in the dips. I was also on the outskirts (SE) of the LD
(Wainwrights Outlying Fells) which can't be the most interesting area.
The only 2 walkers I saw on that walk were traversing the boggy section
(slowly) round Beacon Tarn (SD273900) just ahead of me. 2 more than I
saw on the higher slopes of Bigland barrow latter in the day though.

Well, I feel better now about having decided to choose my own route
    instead. Thanks 🙂

Did it in Oct 2002 (how time flies!) in 4-5 days IIRC. An enjoyable
walk, with few high peaks. One thing that appealed was that it is
possible to reach both ends by train, such that you could use the
Leeds-Lancaster line to get to Carnforth (thence Ulverston) and the S&C
when you finish at Carlisle. (If you live on the S&C corridor and can
get a Dales Rail card and are contemplating doing the walk before
February, you could do the both rail journeys for £3 each under the S&C
Dales Rail card winter offer: see
    http://www.settle-carlisle.co.uk/news/index.cfm?category_id=66&id=163 ).

I appear still to have some info on the CW at:
    http://www.private007.freeserve.co.uk/docs/walk/cumbria_way/
