Get things in perspective. If you earn as much as, say, the minimum
wage, your income tax will dwarf any council tax. And that's the one
that goes to things like the arms industries trade show in Iraq.

Hardly dwarf - income tax + NI on minimum wage comes to about the same as a
band C council tax. Income tax is about 55% of that.

Ok, it gets closer with a single occupancy discount, but...

Three years ago I had a good deal less than the dole. Two years
ago things were beginning to improve, but I still had significantly
less than the minimum wage. Yet even then I paid a lot more income
tax than my (Band A) council tax.

I expect council tax is relatively more if you get the benefit
of rich folks tax dodges. I think I made (on paper) around £30k
untaxed last year - almost as much as a property owner in a
sufficiently low-grade tax-inefficient job might expect.
