    Hi everyone,

I am still doing Atkins and enjoying it. I have moved onto OWL and my
weight loss has slowed down to a trickle but that's fine with me. I
have about 1.5kg to lose until I reach my highest end of goal weight,
so nice and slow will do the trick. I am still in ketosis, but always
at the trace and small end of the reading.

I have recovered from the kidney infection although I am still ill, we
are not really sure what is going on. My doctor says it could be a
relapse in the chronic fatigue syndrome, and if so, this too will
    pass.

I was wondering if you had any suggestions for some crunchy low carb
snacks for me to nibble on between meals? I have been eating macadamia
nuts however they are so expensive at the moment due to the season.
(also, I am a bit sick of nuts at the moment). I have tried pork
rinds and I find they don't agree with me. I live in Australia so the
low-carb products are few and far between on the East Coast. I would
be willing to make my own stuff.

More than anything else, I miss the little crunchy snacks that I used
to have in the afternoon. I used to eat vegie chips made with tapioca
but of course they are out of the question. Any and all suggestions
    welcome. 🙂

Ok, then. Here's mine: don't eat, do something else. If you're eating out
of habit, which is usually the motivation for snacking, then it's extra
food that you don't need. If you're eating out of true hunger, then have a
bigger breakfast and a bigger lunch.

    Hi Yuluwirri

It may sound strange, but I like to snack on low carb cereal with a low
fat yogurt stirred through. The yogurt doesn't make the cereal soggy the
way milk does, it stays crunchy, and even with low fat, the amount of
fat left coating the cereal slows the response and smooths any glucose
spikes. Forty grams of Hi-Lo with fifty grams of Nestle yogurt is
relatively low in carbs and calories, but probably not advisable if you
really want to stay in ketosis. It has five grams of net carbs for the
cereal and the yogurt has about 2.5 gms, although many seem to think
that yogurt has no effective carbs at all. It is pretty comparable in a
carb sense, and lower in calories, to an equivalent weight in nuts and
    far more filling.

    See http://www.lowcarbluxury.com/yogurt.html

I have my doubts about it, but others can make their own decisions.

I eat a bowl of this or some sushi before exercising to give energy. The
exercise burns the carbs off pretty quickly and the extra energy makes
    the exercise enjoyable.

BTW, I only use low fat products where there is a high percentage of
saturated fat, such as in yogurt and some cheese.

    Regards

    David

  4. Nancy's Salty C-Chips

4 ounces unsweetened coconut cut in large shreds, can be bought at the
    health food store, usually refrigerated

Spray cooking oil or Pam (I do like corn oil)

Salt, I used the finer popcorn salt with no extra additives

Place the coconut on a baking sheet, spray lightly with oil or Pam, sprinkle
    with salt

Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 5-7 minutes or until lightly browned and
crispy. Makes 4 servings...put them in 4 separate snack bags (when cooled)
to keep yourself honest. 2 grams of carbohydrate per serving

You have a point! The OP should instead gargle a little Listerine. That'll
take away the urge to snack!

Well, first you wash all the gunk off, then you put them in the oven, wait
until burned, curse, : ) Seriously, I season the washed and patted dried
seeds with a ground chilli/cumin mix, then roast them in a low-ish oven
until they turn the right shade of golden. The problem is that they turn
from creamy to black if you blink for a second... Much nicer than even the
very good shop-bought ones you can buy over here, though, and effectively
    free : )

It's something I'm working on too. I'm not just a comfort eater, I am
orally fixated in general. I chew gum, smoke, eat, drink water, bite my
nails, chew on toothpicks, pens, pencils, bite my lower lip, etc. To try
to break the snacking habit, I do the less harmful things on the above
list, like the gum (sugarless) or the toothpicks. I wish there were a way
to just stop being orally fixated. It's just my way of dealing with
anxiety, I guess. It goes away for a few hours after I work out, but then
    it comes back.

  13. Have you tried slicing salami, pepperoni or other hard sausages into very
thin strips and microwaving them into crisps?

You can also bake or microwave thin cheese slices and get cheese crisps.

Another nice snack is to take pecans, walnuts or almonds and dowse them in a
tablespoon of sugar free flavored syrup, mix it in, then microwave them
until the syrup dries off. If you can't get the syrups, you can make your
own with some artificial sweetener, baking flavorings, and a tiny bit of
water. You can also make these by baking them in the oven.

You can also bake cookies with almond meal. You can make your own meal with
almonds and a small chopper appliance if you can't find it in stores. There
are quite a few recipes on the web. They are high calorie if that is a
    problem, but quite delicious.

Good luck and congrats for getting so close to goal!
