Alex just placed third in the Elite CO State Championships after
leading early. Only JHK managed to get away from him in the end. He's
undefeated at cross natz in his age group.

Liberty cup stuff is going to be a ton of fun on sunday. Alex is going
to really surprise people with how well he does.

I hung around Saturday to watch the Elite race, after dnf'ing in the
old fart category, in CO, and have to say it was pretty darned
impressive watching A. Coehlo ride with the big boys. Very classy. He
pretty much crushed the entire field, minus a few. I'd go so far as to
say he wouldn't just podium in the 17/18 group. Barring mechanicals,
he'd probably win that, too.

That said, there were also some very impressive JRs from the TIAA-Cref
squad riding in the same race who performed quite well, especially
considering they'd hung around ALL day after having done the JR race 5
1/2 hours earlier. I guess when you're that young it doesn't affect
you that much to just hang out at the races and wait to ride again.

I'm really looking forward to see how they fare this weekend.

It's approaching 1600 registered racers. Not sure how many are doing
multiple races but it's still a great turnout.
I didn't forget Katie, but I didn't pick ALL people I know and like
just mostly ;-).

He's a kid I really like a lot. Met him a couple of times at Nats. He
went first to my son's second at the Supercup race in Baltimore even
though he is younger.
I'm just hoping that good things keep happening for him and he stays
happy and healthy. The sport's littered with really good young riders
who quit for one reason or another.
I wont be down until friday night/saturday since I'm in Mr. Mommy mode
after my wife goes down tomorrow to get ready.
Maybe see you there. My daughter is riding Jr women 17/18 and women B
on Sunday.

I won't be there. I'm harboring NO delusions regarding my 'cross
talents whatsoever. In fact, if you'd seen me ride you'd understand
why some might say that for me to use the words "cross" and "talent" in
the same sentence is a bit of a stretch.

My goal for most of the season was to not get lapped by too many of the
front runners. Oh, yea... and to have fun. That one I achieved in
spades. If I could have only broken into the top ten, once.

She's in it for the same reason you are, to have fun. If I showed up
in to race right now I'd be in serious danger of either being
harpooned, and in NE this is a traditional craft, or arrested for
causing damage due to excessive laughter.

Speaking of respect, I just thought it was funny that no one
had yet mentioned the defending champion. You can't really
fit much travel into a school schedule but I think he showed
pretty clearly in Gloucester that he's the guy to beat.

As for Dag, I guess all I know about him is that last summer
was the 25th anniversary of the date where he met his wife (a
host housing romance that turned out well) at a race in Appleton,
Wi that was won by Greg Lemond (then racing as a Junior) from
a two-up break with Aussie pro Ian Jackson. Other than that the
guy's a big question mark for me, thanks for filling in the
blanks.

If I were to take a cheap shot at the lutefisk eaters it would
be that the whole freakin' team was named Dag, that's why guys
like Dag-Otto Lauritzen (later a Tour stage winner) and Dag-Erik
Pedersen (later a Giro stage winner) had to use their middle
names otherwise someone would say "Hey Dag" and the whole team
would look.

Yeah JP is, isn't he. Damn. That just seems so weird, seeing the kids
turning into collegiates and elites. How the hell does that happen when
we aren't getting any older? Wonder when they catch up to us?

strong ride at Vlaamse Duinenveldrit (I saw the video) and his strong

I think Page is the heavy favorite, but I think that Tim Johnson is
even better than he is in the real slop, not by much but enough to make
it real close. Mark isn't quite as good in that kind of stuff, though
he did a hell of a job this weekend.
In good conditions I think it's a shootout between Page, Mark, and
Ryan.
In the slop I'd say Page, Tim, and Mark.
That said, the worst of their skills are better than 99% of us will
ever be.
Alan is more likely to be right than me since he sees them just about
every week and I haven't gotten to many races this year. I know Jesse
Anthony crashed out sunday but I didn't see it. Hopefully he didn't get
hurt enough to screw up this weekend. We turned around after we saw at
least 9 cars wrecked in the first 10 miles on the way to Sunday's race
due to ice on rt495.
