Creepy camping experiences....?

They're scarey, but I did actually cuddle one once, sort of... I was
on the way back from some music thing out in the back of beyond, one
night, when, as my pal and I rounded a bend in the car, I saw a badger
lying in the road. My pal, who was driving, swerved to avoid it, and I
asked him to pull up. He did, I got out and ran back and saw that the
badger had been hit by a vehicle. It was clearly injured, but still
conscious, and I couldn't tell how badly injured it was. I was afraid
that another car might come round the bend at any moment and squash
it, so I took off my jacket, placed it over the badger (trying to
cover its claws), picked it up in my arms and carried it to the side
of the road. Its head was right up there next to my face, but it
didn't attack me. My heart was in my mouth as I picked it up, but I
couldn't think of anything else to do. I've often wondered whether it
survived.

I do remember running one over. Ugh. It was already dead (I reckon)
but not yet squashed into the road. I was the front seat passenger
and we were doing 70 on an A road. All of a sudden we saw this huge
lump in the road but there was nowhere to swerve to. We slowed down
as much as we could but I'm surprised it didn't rip the exhaust off.

Back on topic...... I always get scared at some point when wild
camping. I wake up in the night and can hear the monsters playing
with my zip.... er, not *MY* zip .... my tent's zip. My mind is wierd
enough when it's awake but when it's half asleep it's loopy.

Yes!! The wind *always* manages to make a sound just like someone
trying to undo the zip! Even when there isn't any wind.... uh-oh...!

Rats eating through the tent wall to get to the bread that was up at my
head, didn't know a thing about it till next morning. I don't keep food
exposed in the tent anymore.

Deer and/or sheep coughing, sounds like a man with a bad smokers cough.

Camping in the middle of Rannoch Moor listening to someone having a
coversation and wondering who it could be and finding out they were a mile
and a half away across the loch.

Sticking my head out of the tent one morning and couldn't breathe because
the air was full of midges. They were in my eyes, up my nose in my ears and
mouth. When I got home my face was so badly bitten my mother thought I had
measles 🙂

Those are the ones I remember but that is over approx. forty years camping
🙂

I was bivvying in the Peak early n this year and had a good kip in the
middle of nowhere. I woke part way through the night, opening my eyes to
a clear sky dotted with stars - is suddenly had the feeling that there
was someone else nearby.

I looked over and saw my teenage son's tent, not sure if I was relieved
or more horrified when I realised I had brought him with me!

It was his first wild camp and we had a laugh but I am rather used to
being on my own. mUst do it again soon if I can drag him away from the
PS2.

Ugh. I went to Scotland as a student, and half the group were carted
off to hospital with midge bites because there was an outbreak of
chicken pox and they couldn't work out who had pox and who had midge
bites...

My cousin and I shared a tent in the hills in the Lakes some years
ago, and as we were sitting talking about 8pm - it was dark out -
something suddenly slammed into me through the side of the tent. I got
such a shock that I virtually levitated! There was nothing to be heard
outside, and when we stuck our heads out of the door very quickly
afterwards there was nothing to be seen. We went out with head torches
and spent about 30 minutes looking around, but we couldn't even find
any sheep...I've no idea what it was, but it was spooky...

The sound of sheep or deer eating grass just outside your tent door might be
a bit scary if you don't realise what it is.

However, at night it sounded like they were clip-clopping their
