William. I think they gave a job lot to British Waterways
too - on a whim I rode home up the tow path (Regent's

Officials are either stupid or intimidated.

They would of course never dream of putting up a "Motorists
get out and push sign", when they start doing so it is time
for cyclists to consider the request to dismount.

The double standards of officials was also demonstrated by
the foot & mouth "crisis". Cycle paths were closed, but not
roads. A risk assessment shows that roads are more likely to
spread the disease, but cyclists can be picked on.

It's because (a) the cycleway is for the convenience of
cagers not cyclists and (b) it is so self-evidently
dangerous that even the council, in their infinite
cluelessness, can't fail to recognise it. The possibility
of option (c), doing the job properly, of course never
occurs to them.
