Why on the net schoolboy? I told you if you asked nicely I'll even show you a pic.

A picture proves nothing. You just put your big clown shoe in you mouth and don't know how to get it out.

    v) Is rude (throws child-like insults for no readily apparent reason)"

Now that I agree to your challenge and provide you with a pic you suddenly dismiss it as proving nothing... hahaha

The schoolboy's throwing insults... hahahaha. Getting you really [censored] makes my day! LOL

I think the ramps and pins of the 53 are "optimized" for the different inner rings. In practice, it does not really matter. If you're getting a new 53, get the one that matches your inner ring. But if you want to swap from one inner ring to the other, you don't need a new outer ring.

  5. boudreaux and dennis dee, i believe the argument here has gone as far as possible for entertainment reasons and it is about time we all moved on.
    The facts.
1)dennis dee has a 130mm bcd crank with a 36 chainring. whether this is theoretically possible im not sure.
2)boudreaux has made some valid points although he hasnt provided with much evidence to prove that you cant have a 36 on a 130 bcd a link would be a start??

Now my little problem goes like this. boudreaux, where in my post did i imply that the brand is the deciding factor in what size chainrings will fit? I mentioned that most brand use 130mm except Campag, and thus if what boudreaux is saying is true, then the cranks (if they were not campag, which they werent) then dennis dee would apparently be fibbing to us. This was an argument that i thought would help your cause. But seeing as though u didnt seem to accept the help im going to pick up my stuff and go home (btw boudreaux what does boudreaux mean?)
Before i go...dennis dee i would love to see your picture of the 36t chainring on 130mm bcd cranks. It just seems to me, that it must be a very close fit (from the bottom of the valleys in chainring teeth to the chainring bolts). Please help to prove your point and end this argument. If possible sit a ruler or measuring device in the pic so that it measures the distance from the centre of the bottom bracket spindle, to the centre of a bolt on the crank arm. Thanks!

  6. this one's for you boudreaux. a link to back up my claims! I just dont like to be told im wrong and even though u didnt deny the fact that campag are bringing out a compact design others did. Cheers guys.

I cannot believe how 'THICK' some of you people are. Any other cycling site when it's stated that a 38 is the smallest ring possible on a 130BCD, it's golden. Just like the sun comes up and the east and doesn't have to be 'proven'. There is alot of stuff like that. Among knowledgeable posters, everything does not have to be 'proven'. There is a concept called credibility.Ever heard of it? The hooey mongers and ministers of misinformation are pertty easy to spot ......Go to www.harriscyclery.com and check Sheldons golssary of bike terms: Bolt Circle Diameter. He has a chart which shows the minimum for each BCD.... www.peterwhitecycles.com has a pretty complete listing of chainrings. Note there is none for a 36 and a 130 BCD. Haven't you figured out Mr d d yet. He puts his foot in his mouth and then makes up things to try and get it out. All one has to do is read his first response in this thread to know he doesn't know BCDs from his clown hat.....FWIW, you asked what brand crank he had, which implies that minimum teeth per BCD is somehow brand dependent. That concept in it's self is nonsense. If he's really got a 36 on a Sugino crank it's something other that a 130, as there are several possibilities: 94,104,110 BCD.

  8. For your information boudreaux i dont believe that there is such a thing as a 36 ring for a 130mm bcd crank, if u read carefully you will notice me leaning towards this opinion from my other posts. My continued posts have only been made in the hope that dennis dee "proves" to us that his cranks are or aren't 130mm bcd w/ a 36 'ring.

well, HFC! Isn't this asking for proof?

  10. A lot of guys around here look for smaller chainwheels, and 38 is the only one smaller that I've seen that fits Shimano 130 mm BCD cranksets. If a 36 would fit, believe one of the bike shop mechanics or aging gearhead engineers I ride with around here would have it.

Agree with drewjc, I'd also like to see a closeup photo of the 36 chainring on 130 BCD with a ruler laid across to illustrate both the BCD and the overall diameter.

  11. I almost don't want to contribute from fear of starting a war. However, it is possible to have less than 38 on a 130 bcd, however not on round chainrings. Elliptical chainrings are a funny idea that never really works well, but I think you can have less than 38 on a 130.

While we're at it, what's the disadvantage to running a compact even with standard gearrings. I.e. 110 bcd with 39,53 or something similar.

I 'spose you could. The ring would not be round but it would not be elliptical or "biopace" either. It would have to be "pentagonish" in shape and who would want to ride that?

Elliptical or biopace rings can't be made as small as round rings for a given BCD.

  13. The only disadvantage from using a 110mm bcd with normal gearing would possibly be a slight loss of stiffness. I would assume that chainrings arent as stiff as cranks/crank-arms. If this wasnt the case why would track cranks use such a large bcd of 144mm (i think the old style used 150/151mm).

Behold the 36T 130mm BCD chainring. Probably there's none that's commercially avaialble. This is my custom CNC machined piece.

    Material: 5000 series Aluminum.

Thanks for posting....looks like the real thing from here.

Not a lot of meat left between the bolt holes and the minor diameter, but suppose it's enough. Was this made from a commercial 36T (110 BCD?) ring?
