pablo said:Sounds great, Serene. Could you post your recipe or method for making the
cranberries and figs? I usually throw a few dried figs in with the
cranberries and other fruits, but this sounds even better.
Also, do you really like Mother Stamberg's cranberry relish? I hear about
it every year, but no one ever really gives it a thumbs up or down. I
think

This may not be Serene's recipe, but it *does* contain figs and is a keeper
nonetheless. I've not known anyone who didn't rave over the result. As to
the other, the "pepto-bismol pink" version, I'm afraid I can't help you;
never had it served to me, nor have I made it.
From epicurious.com:
Cranberry Sauce with Port and Dried Figs
1 2/3 c. ruby Port (I usually "cut" the good-quality Port w/ something else,
often apple cider)
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar (I've also used sherry vinegar, which is equally as
good)
1/4 c. packed light brown sugar
8 dried figs (I use Black Mission), stemmed and chopped
1 6-inch-long sprig of rosemary
1/4 tsp. fresh-ground black pepper
1 12-ounce bag fresh cranberries
3/4 cup granulated sugar
Combine first six ingredients in medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring
until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat to low and simmer 10 minutes. Discard
the rosemary.
Mix in cranberries and granulated sugar; cook over medium heat until liquid
is slightly reduced and the berries burst, stirring occasionally, about 6
minutes. Cool. Transfer to bowl and chill until cold. (Cranberry sauce
can be prepared 1 week ahead. Cover and keep refrigerated.)
Makes about 3 1/2 cups.
Enjoy,
Spitz
