  1. Out at 8am.
Up the hill to Wimbledon - always a nice little tester to start the ride!
Across the common to Robin Hood gate
Around the Park to Ham gate and on to Teddington Lock.

Thames tow path to Kingston & across the river
    Towpath to Hampton Court
Across the river again & on the Walton on the towpath.

Away from the river at Walton and on the Road to Hersham & across the A307
Into the woods and the farmland around the back side of Claremont Gardens.
    Through Esher common woodland
Over the A3 & back to Claygate Common, on to Thames Ditton and back to
    Hampton Court.

Over the river and through Bushy park to Teddington.
Over the Lock and on the Richmond on the towpath passing Ham house on the
    way.

On to Kew Gardens, Hammersmith Bridge & Putney.
Away from the river again and up the back (off road track) route to Putney
    Common.
On to Wimbledon Common, past the Windmill.
Down to the hill & home!

    Back at 1pm
Exactly 5 hours door to door
    50.5 miles
40 miles off road 10 miles on tarmac
    4hrs 36min cycling
Average cycling speed 10.9 (Mountain bike)

Not bad for a ride for your front door in London!!!

Oh yes, I almost forgot: Brilliant sunshine all morning!

I know all of your route intimately, but was just wondering where this off
    road track to Putney is?

Yes, not bad having all that on our doorsteps! Shame my MTB has broken, I'm
restricted to roadie biking around Richmond Park every night.

The link bit from the river to the main track is a bit of a faff, but worth
it for the car & house porm you cycle past and nicer than the road

You should be able to follow this, I'm looking a streetmap.co.uk

    Going down river:

Turn right off the towpath at the Beverly Brook Foot/Cycle path
Follow your nose till you come to a little up and over bridge
Over the bridge take a left across the field (Putney Lower Common) following
    the cycle track
Crossing lower Richmond road/queers ride on the way

Turn right onto Lower common south
Right onto St Mary's grove (unpaved. through a narrow gap)
    Left onto queen's ride
Left onto gypsy lane follow to junction

You are now at the sth circ/upper Richmond road

Directly opposite is Putney Park lane, an unadopted and unmade road, for
most part and back alley for a bit.
That takes you all the way up to Putney heath at the junction with Telegraph
    road.
Carry on and you come to the Telegraph Pub - great beer and muddy cyclist
friendly even though it is quite a posh Gastro Pub - the "Cyclists Welcome"
signs are for real. they even have locks they will lend to attach you bike
    to the substantial bike rack!

Past the pub is a dirt track that takes you to the Tibbet's Corner
underpass, through that you are back on the Putney heath gravel track that
leads across to the Windmill on the Common

A much nicer ride than up Putney Hill, and in practice eminently doable on a
road bike if you weave around the potholes!

yep nice part of the world. Not sure where you are crossing the A307 or
these woods and farmland around the back sideof Claremont as distinct from
    Esher Common.

    Click on "2005-10-09 Esher Common"

Similar, except I pick it up at kingston & go back along the south bank to
HC and Bushey park before hiiting the river at teddington rest is identical.

Looking at some of your routes our paths must cross regularly!

Partly mapped here as Esher common ride

    http://gps.elyob.com/gpsmap.php

The bit through the woods is a bit tricky as multiple paths cross!

If I can rebuild my MTB then I might put together a few new rides to follow.

Alternatively, has anyone got a gpx that they want me to upload?

I'm rewriting and working on a cycle-centric system.
