Coyote mountain bikes were marketed by RD (Research Dynamics), an American
ski maker. I don't think they ever made their own bikes, just contracted
with various frame builders in Japan, Taiwan, and probably elsewhere to have
frames built and painted with Coyote graphics, ticked the right boxes in the
Shimano wholesale catalog for each model, and assembled complete bikes. The
only shops that I ever saw offering Coyote bicycles were ski shops that
offered them as rental bikes in the summer time. The only people I ever knew
who actually owned Coyote bicycles were ski industry workers who got them
cheap from a rep. I bought a Coyote Team 5 in 1989 that was a decent ride
for the money (and yes, I was working in a ski shop at the time).

I believe the ski company was based in Sun Valley, Idaho, although actual
ski production, like cycle production, may have been done offshore.

Was that the same company though? I used to have a Coyote Ultralite raod bike, and
I thought that was a UK company and that the US company of the same name was
different.

I may be wrong though.

I find it rather odd that two companies would name their bicycles after an
American scavenger animal, but it just might have happened.

RD never offered a road bike in the US to my knowledge, they were following
the ski industry trend of using mountain biking to generate cash flow during
the summer months. The Coyote mountain bikes in the US used a coyote paw
print as one of their logos, they frequently had "designed in USA" or some
such written on the frame somewhere.

Yes, I do believe it is the UK Coyote firm I seek. My ex-bike didnt have a
paw print on or 'made in US'

It did have Ultralite on the frame, and the company was called Coyote
Ultralite.

Mine was a mountain bike frame from later 90's. Love another one.
