Costco produce?

Wow, now that you mention it, when I was in Costco on Sunday, I was surprised at the lack of
produce, but since it wasn't on my list I didn't dwell on it. I just remember thinking to myself
that the produce section was pretty bare. The aisles were wider.

No. Our local warehouse places carry the same selection of produce now as before the hepatitis
incident. Much of our produce comes from California and Mexico anyway.

I don't remember ever seeing green onions and either of the Costco stores in my city, but they still
have bell peppers, spinach, snap beans, etc. I did not check the country of origin, however, so they
could be from somewhere other than Mexico. I think that bell peppers and celery would not be as much
of a risk as green onions, though. Bell peppers and celery are much easier to clean thoroughly than
green onions.

I was at Costco today and checked out the produce. No green onions, but the bell peppers are from
Israel (?!?!?) and almost everything else is from the US--at least the celery and all the leafy
green stuff. I'm in central Canada, btw. Wouldn't it be odd if Costco produce in central Canada were
from the US, but Costco US carried produce from outside the US? I wonder if that's the case...

I just bought red peppers and celery from Costco2 days ago. I believe they were from Canada

It's very peculiar--ever since the green onion thing the entire cold room at my Costco is virtually
empty. It used to be that it was better to park your cart outside the room and run in and get
armfuls of stuff because they had so much stacked around the walls and floor that it was almost
impossible to get a cart around. Now the entire floor space is empty and there is very little along
the walls.

They had green onions for a short while at Costco, Winchester, VA, sporadically, but not recently.
One had to buy 4 bunches at a time- meaning that you usually got 1 bunch free. They were sort of
tasteless; they were too large.

Our local Costco does indeed carry produce from outside the US. Much of it is from Mexico, with some
items coming from various places in Central and South America.

Possibly, except I always read labels carefully and most packaging on bagged produce (as all produce
at Costco is) will have "Distributed by" and "Produced by". Initially I read "distributed by
(whatever company), USA" on the celery so I thought it were probably grown elsewhere and repackaged
in the US. But then I saw the "Produced by (...), USA" so I knew it was grown in the US. All the
other stuff I looked at also had "Produced by..., USA" except for the bell peppers, which were from
Israel (I think it was Israel).

I love reading labels. There's something very calming about it :-).

We didn't eat much cereal at our house. But I think reading labels and signs was one of the ways we
practised reading. One of the first words I remember reading on my own was "Tex-a-co" :-).

LOL! Not really. Cold cereals weren't common in our house when growing up. They still aren't common
and none of them come in boxes LOL.
