My future MIL asked me if I could look up a Costa Rican
recipe for my future nephew to make in his cooking class
in school. He's only in Junior High (about 11 years old)
and needs to make something for his class - I guess
they're all picking a dish to cook from a different
country. Anyway, does anyone have any easy suggestions for
an 11 year old to make with a little help from his mom?
I did a quick search for Costa Rican recipes, but without
any idea of what I'm looking for, I'm just clueless.
Besides, many are a little complicated. Can anyone help?

This is like a rice pudding. Costa Rican (natives are
referred to as Ticos or Ticas). Food in Honduras is very
similar - a lot of fried or roasted chicken, lots of red
beans, lots of fried plantains, lots of white rice 9with
mixed vegetable cooked in the rice)
Arroz con Leche
2 cups of rice. 1 big can of condensed milk. 1 big can of
evaporated milk. 2 cups of milk. 1 cup of sugar. 1 small
cinnamon chip. A few small nails of scent (cloves). 1 box of
raisins (optional).
1/2 bar of margarine.
Wash your hands and the ingredients (those that can be
wash.. use the reason).
Put the rice to rest for 1 hour in water with the cinnamon
and the nails of scent.
After resting the rice, add the 2 cups of milk and begin
to cook for
2/2 hour, don't let that the rice dry out (if this happens
add more milk or water) and stir well every two or three
minutes so that it doesn't stick.
Add the sugar, stir again, and cook more (for about 10
minutes).
Add the condensed milk and the one evaporated and stir
(taste it to see how sweet it is... if necessary add more
sugar if it needs to be more sweet or milk if it is too
sweet; and if it is well.... I congratulate you).
Continue cooking for about 15 minutes without neglecting it
and always stirring every 2 to 3 minutes.
After 15 more minutes of cooking, remove from the stove –
Allow the " arroz con leche " to rest for about 5-10
minutes. (Turn off the stove).
