When I make corndogs, sometimes the batter doesn't stick to the hotdog
very well. What is the trick to getting a nice even layer of batter
wrapped around the hotdog?

Freeze the dogs before you dip them in the batter and make sure your batter
is thick.

I watched an Alton Brown show where the hotdogs were first powdered with
cornstarch before dipping in the batter. He brushed off the extra corn
starch before the dipping. HTH.

Rub the oil off the outside of the raw dogs. I suspect dusting
with flour would work, too.

With a paper towel, not with a soapy sponge.
You never know...

Chill the batter, don't freeze the dog!!! Who wants a deep-fried frozen
hotdog?
And see Sky's post!

When I make them, it's what I do it works for me. This seems like a strange
thing to have to point out, the dogs don't stay frozen when they are
cooked.

Just make sure the hot dogs are dry on the outside before you dip them
in the batter - if they won't stay dry, coat them with flour, and then
shake off the excess.
On Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives last night, Guy created a pimiento-
cheese stuffed corndog, which he and the guest chef both declared to
be fantastic. It sounds good to me.
